Well, your year is just about over. Its been quite an experience for you and everyone who has come in contact with you. Chilton was quite a change for you. There were good times! You made many new friends. You learned to tobbogan, ice skate and you almost learned how to ski! And of course there were bad times, but we don’t want to talk about semester tests or the bruises you got participating in interscholastic volleyball. You cheered everyone up with your smile and a “try it, you’ll like it” attitude. We will always remember you and we hope you’ll take fond memories of your senior year back to Chile with you. We love ya Marisol! A BIT OF CHILE Miss Maria Angelica Soledad Urbina Correa from Valdivia, Chile was Chilton Highs AFS student this year. She spent the year with the Clifford Schaubs family. 45 1972 HONOR STUDENTS Debra Steege-Valedictorian Patricia Schabach-Salutatorian Mary Nohr Edward Rollmann Joseph Schneider Kristine Woelfel The Betty Crocker Award went to Patricia Schabach. Cherly Meier was alternate and went in place of Debbie. A Ken Gasch and Heidi Moeschberger were elected flag raisers. f On August 29, 1968, the Freshman Class was welcomed to Chilton High by Mr. Neilson. Although it was to be a year of uncertainty for most of us, we had excellent help from our advisors, Mrs. Schuknecht and Mr. Fochs, and from our officers, Laurie Seefeld-President, Sue Pautz—Vice President, Pat Schierl—Secretary, and Mary Nohr—Treasurer. Representatives were Kris Woelfel, Jerry Schultz, and Mary Pfeffer. Our first important moment was Homecoming on October 18. Our float “We’ll Knock ’Em Dead” won 4th prize. Our class gained recognition when Ken Gasch and Rick Baltz represented us at state in track. Nita Gilbertson, Debbie Schabach, Pat Schabach, Heidi Moeschberger, Debbie Drone, and alternate, Darlene Veit, were freshman cheerleaders. As Sophomores, we had new experiences, and likewise, new leaders. It was during this year that we met our two advisors who would accompany us through the rest of our high school days, Mrs. Meinen and Mr. Thompson. Class leaders were Ken Gasch—President, Rick Daun—Vice President, Cheryl Meier Secretary, and Mary Nohr—Treasurer. Representatives were Tom Mittnacht, Jerry Schultz, Kris Woelfel, and Dan Schaefer. October 10,1969, was our second Homecoming. Although our float “Dead Ringer” didn’t win an award, our spirit won the pep assembly “Spirit Award.” Climax of the year was Sweetheart Hop held February 14, 1970. Pat Brenner was crowned queen as she and her escort, Jerry Schultz, reigned over the “Age of Aquarius.” Members of the court were Jean Daun—John Weber, Sue Pautz—Rick Daun, Laurie Seefeld—Doug Hertel. Cheryl Meier reigned over the first Snow Festival, and Debbie Drone was on the JV Cheering squad, with Pat Schabach and Heidi Moeschberger as alternates. Our first experience as upperclassmen was to elect Junior officers-Tom Mittnacht President, Rick Daun-Vice President, Cheryl Meier-Secretary, and Pat Brenner—Treasurer. Representatives were Debbie Steege, Doreen Aebischer, Kathy Burg, and Mary Kleinhans. “Our Brief Shining Moment” occurred on May I, 1971. Debbie Steege, a member of our 5-High team, spent the summer as an AFS student in Greece. Finally our long wait ended, we were Seniors. Our “special” classmate was Marisol Urbina from Chile. Our pretty Chilean friend stayed at Chilton all year and fit in well with our life style. Officers for the year were Rick Daun-President, Doreen Aebischer Vice President, Jim Schaefer—Secretary, Steve Thielmann—Treasurer. Representatives were Mary Nohr, Heidi Moeschberger, Sue Pautz, and Tom Mittnacht. Honors went to Herb Hertel in breaking the school cross country record; to John Weber, Glenn Mueller, Lcn Gebhart, and Tom McMunn who made football All-Conference. Debbie Drone, Captain, and Pat Schabach were Varsity Cheerleaders. “We’ve Only Just Begun” was the theme of a very special Homecoming. The Seniors won the yelling contest, the skit competition, and first prize for our float “Chilton’s Pride Will Tan Their Hide.” Homecoming was held in conjunction with the opening of Main Street. Queen Judy Schneider reigned over the festivities with King Rick Baltz. Members of the court were Sue Pautz-Tim Schwartz, Jane Pfeffer-Steve Thielmann, Ann Kopf-Charlie Geiser, Darlene Veit-John Weber. Several city and state dignitaries, Alice in Dairyland, Miss Calumet along with the community, viewed the parade. The Tigers added the finishing touch by defeating New Holstein 33-0. During half time, Tom Mittnacht, Student Council president, presented the window display and float prizes. Placing first in the float competition was the Senior Class with their winning theme, “Chilton’s Pride Will Tan Their Hide”. Winners of the uptown and school window displays were the Juniors and Sophomores respectively. Precision marching by the band to “Hello Broadway” completed half time entertainment. DEBBIE GOES TO GREECE On June 22, 1971 Debbie Steege, AFS Americans Abroad—Summer Program participant began an adventure that will never be forgotten. She spent the summer as a Greek-maybe typical, maybe not. Mr. and Mrs. Efthimnios Veleris, Yana-16, and Christiana-11, of Athens, became her family. They lived the leisure life of a Greek family on the seaside for the summer. Mythology came “alive” when she could stand in the middle of ancient temples but Debbie found out that there was much more to that small country than “oldness”. The modern Greek spirit, a conglomerate of vitalism, fatalism, energy, good food, music and sunshine, was a far more important thing to experience; it could only be experienced by living it. September 2 saw Debbie back with her American family and friends but already wishing she could go back and try to recapture a spirit. 62 Row One, 1-r: Laureen Doern, Jean Daun, Linda Doern, Kathy Karl, Mary Weber. LITTLE TIGERS HA VE GOOD SEASON The Chilton Freshmen started the season strong, but injuries played a key role in some later defeats at the hands of strong conference competition. Outstanding defensive plays were rewarded by membership in the “Red Apple” Club. Leaders in this club were Mark Boll, Jeff Lisowe, and Larry Meyer. Offensively John Bolz led the ground gainers with 331 yards in 60 carries, for an average of 5.5 yards per carry. Led by the strong running of returning lettermen Herb Hertel, a Senior, and Mike Kasper, a Junior, the CC team defeated approximately 60% of the team they ran against. Senior letterman Gary Kasper and Junior Mark Rein-kober, his first year out for the sport, added strong finishes for the “Blugolds.” Other lettermen and point getters were Senior, Dennis Rollmann and Juniors, Dean Papendieck and Don Gonzo. Juniors Russ Gilbertson and Mark Nicolay, with Sophomore Mike Mueller, rounding out the team, saw limited competition with the varsity but ran well in J.V. competition. Coach Ed Drone was pleased with the progerss showed by his team and felt the third place standing in the conference was indicative of the overall strength of the Packerland Conference. Get set. Go ...! Although Chilton’s 1970 track squad lacked the necessary depth for a highly successful win-loss record, it did have a number of individuals who showed championship form. Junior sprinter, Rick Baltz and Ken Gasch, were con-sistant point getters all year. In 1970, school marks were set in the following events: Jeff Schumacher-2 mile-10:23.4-against Sheboygan Falls Ken Gasch, Dexter Sattler, Dan Lorenz, Rick Baltz—Mile Relay—3:27.6-Regionals Jim Ratz, Gordie Grube, Steve Rozman, Ken Gasch-880 Relay—1:30.8-Regionals Rick Baltz finished the season with a fine run at the State meet in June and placed third in the Class “B” 440. A shot put record of 50’5V4” was set by John Weber at the Sheboygan Falls Duel Meet. 97 A SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR The girls swimming team, with Mrs. Depies as coach and Mr. Youngsteadt as advisor, had a successful first year. Chilton Defeated Appleton East, Two Rivers, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan. Chilton’s first and only upset took place in home waters against Menasha. Sectionals were held in Sheboygan with the result of Jackie Gilbertson, Jennie Forst-ner, and Peggy Vanne going on to state which was held in Beloit. The season ended with a five and one record. BASEBALL GAINS NEW COACH The Chilton High School baseball team ended its first season under new head coach, Mr. Stuebbe with a 4 win and 8 loss record. In what must be described as a rebuilding year, the Tigers were plagued by general inexperience and lack of hitting power. Despite these obstacles the team began to jell toward the end of the summer, and came to its peak in a 3 to 2 victory over tough Campbellsport team. (The Tigers were the first Packer-land Conference team to beat Campbellsport). Senior catcher, Dan Keuler was elected Most Valuable Player on the basis of steady defensive play and a .394 batting average. Another valuable senior lost to graduation, who lead the pitching staff with a 2.04 Earned Run Average, was Mike Schmidlkofer. The batting championship trophy went to junior, Tom McMunn, who used an eight game hitting streak to up his final average to .440. Of the ten men who earned varsity letters, six will return to the 1972 squad.
