Astronauts Anders, Borman and Lovell 2 DEDICATION JAMES SKARDA Four years ago in 1965, the Class of ’69 entered the hallowed halls of CHS as new freshmen. Along with them came someone else to whom Chilton High was unfamiliar. This person did not come as a student but as a Guidance Counselor. Even though he too was in new and different surroundings with all their complications, he seemed to push his own problems aside and talk on the burdens of all these new students plus the others who were then in school. Each year since, he has helped all students, new and old, to overcome the problems they have faced. And so, to you Mr. Skarda, the entire student body of Chilton High School, wishes to dedicate the 1969 TIGERETTE. Mr. Skarda graduated from the Kendall High School at Kendall, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor's Degree at W.S.U. LaCrosse and his Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He also did graduate work at Marquette University, the University of Louisville, and Holy Family College. Dear Students: The Chinese symbol for the word crisis is composed of two characters that mean danger and opportunity. I think this describes the world we live in today--a world of dangerous opportunity. We face many problems in our human relations, economy, technology, and conservation of natural resources. In each there are pitfalls for the weak and unprepared, yet in each there is a challenge for strong and dedicated young people to mold a better world in which to live. If you will apply yourself and take every advantage offered by your education you will be prepared to open the door when opportunity knocks. Best wishes and good luck. A. W. Gordon 4 A A. W. GORDON ADMINISTRATION To the Class of '69: Within the covers of this annual lies a record of days gone by, days never to return. You will thumb through these pages often for Memory's sake. Here faces will ever remain fixed in eternity. Look long and deep. Remember them. Appreciate them. Wish them well. They have added to your life. But do not linger, for this book is not really the truth. Time does not stand still, and you have too many wonderful places to go and too many great things to do to be delayed long by the faces of the past. Just remember them. Appreciate them. Wish them well. For, you see, they will always remember you. You have added much to their lives. 4 ALBERT R. NIELSON SECRETARIES SEATED: Jan Mader and Vicki Plue. STANDING: Sarah Thurwachter. IN MEMORIAM When the class of '69 graduates from Chilton High, they will go on to new and greater goals. One member of the class has already passed from these hallowed halls and reached the ultimate goal. Michael Woelfel, better known by his friends as Louie , was taken from us in a tragic moment on August 12, 1968. Although he is gone in body, the memory of him will long linger in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. Mike was on the freshman basketball team his first year at CHS and was an active member in Student Council while he was junior class president. We the graduating class of 1969 may forget many of our high school days, but we shall never forget those moments we shared with our dear friend Louie 29 Senior History In September of 1965, 147 new faces came to CHS. The class of '69 started their freshman year off under the guidance of class officers Francis Satzer, Ken Veit, M Maureen Hatchell, and Tom Gebhart. The big event of the year was Homecoming. Although it was not a prize-winner, a lot of fun and hard work went into our float We'll Orbit the Vikings . Freshman cheerleaders were Barb Hackbarth, Maureen Hatchell, Mary Kay Keuler, Mary Nolan, and Carol Selk. Second semester officers were Mike Hauser, Bruce Diehl, Mary Kay Keuler, and Eugene Schneider. Advisors were Mrs. Flemming, Mr. Schuknecht, and Miss Lands-burg. Our sophomore year started out with election of officers. Mark Haumschild was elected president with Mary Diedrich, Mary Nolan, and Katy Binsfeld to assist him. A great deal of work again went into the Homecoming float, Huskies Pull While We Slide to Victory . Even though it was no winner, our window display, We'll Butcher the Holsteins won first place. Barb Hackbarth, Gail McMunn, and Carol Selk were on the J.V. Cheering Squad and Tom Woelfel was the only sophomore on the Varisty Football Team who, incindentally, were Undefeated Champs that year. Second semester class officers were Terry Friederichs, Tom Woelfel, Kris Hilbert, and Dick Daun. Then the big event of the year rolled around, the annual Sweetheart Hop. Judy Rollmann was chosen as our favorite sweetheart. Joe Scholz was her escort. Other members of the court were Joyce Ludwig, Katy Binsfeld, Mary Nolan, and Donna Diedrick, who were escorted by Terry Friederichs, Mike Hauser, Ed Hertel, and Mike Hertel. Class advisors were Mr. Schuknecht, Miss Graichen, and Mr. Teschke. As upper classmen, the junior class officers for the entire year were Mike Woelfel, Mike Gudex, Judy Rollmann, and Nadine Gasch. Student council representatives were Terry Friederichs, Kathy Schneider, Sandy Sket, and Mike Hauser. Judy Geiger and Sue Michael were on the J.V. Cheering Squad and Kathy Salm was on the Varsity Squad. Once again a great deal of time and work went into the float We'll Ground the Flying Dutchmen which received second place. The second semester brought with it a very special event for the class--the Junior Prom. The class elected Eugene Schneider to reign as king. Diane Vogt was chosen to be his queen. Other members of the court were Mary Kay Keuler escorted by Terry Friederichs, Judy Rollmann escorted by Steve Bruckner, JoAnn Halbach escorted by Steve Pautz, Kathy Schneider escorted by Joe Scholz, and Ellen Pfeffer escorted by Tom Sohrweide. Love Makes the World Go Round was chosen as the theme for the prom. On April 26 at ten thirty, Diane was crowned 1968 Prom Queen by Eugene. Couples passed the evening dancing to the music of Gene Heier and his orchestra. Later in the year Judy Rollmann was chosen as Badger Girl and Dick Daun and Duane Seipel were Badger Boys. Miss Graichen, Mr. Hunt, and Mr. Hoffman were class advisors. :hen the class of '69 finally became seniors. A new member joined the class our last year. Rabeab Naudom, know to all as Robbi, came from Thailand to spend a year at CHS as a foreign exchange student. Robbi lived with the Robert Mand family and showed many talents and was very active during her year with us. The class will always remember the times when Robbi was with us and hope that she will long remember us. Officers for the final year were Joe Scholz, Carol Selk, Diane Vogt and Pat Mand. Student council representatives were Terry Friederichs, Nadine Gasch, Kathy Schneider, and Judy Rollmann. Chris Grittner and Mike Hauser were chosen as flag 30 raisers. Kathy Salm was the only senior in cheering and she was the captain of the Varsity Squad. Homecoming queen and king in '68 were Pat Hoerth and Mike Bruckner. On the court of honor were Judy Rollmann and Dave Hoerth, Kathy Schneider and Rich Penning, Sandy Sket and Tom Woelfel, and Diane Vogt and Eugene Schneider. The float theme was We Express Our Spirit . One member of our class left at the semester and took a trip to Brazil. Judy Rollmann was chosen as an AFS student to go overseas. Kris Hilbert received the Betty Crocker Award and Barb Wettstein was selected as DAR award winner. Class advisors were Mr. Hoffmann, Miss Graichen, and Mr. Schuler. As the year drew to a close, students with top honors were named. They included Francis Satzer, valedictorian, Barb Wettstein, salutatorian, Duane Seipel, Mary Murphy, Mary Diedrich, Nadine Gasch, Sue Michael, Tom Sohrweide, Judy Rollmann, and Mary Mayer. On June 8, each member of the class bid farewell to the hallowed halls of Chilton High and went out into the world to find success. 31 Lazy Days SENIORS ON THE SPOT... The IN Crowd Sheer Frustration! Kathy was an active member in Art Club during her sophomore year. Although Kathy has gone on before, those who were her friends will always remember her. We only hope that we may meet again someday in the great beyond. IN MEMORIAM Thy will be done; my rest is won.” The class of '70 wishes to give recognition to Kathy Lemke who passed from this earth on May 17, 1968. In a tragic moment, Kathy was taken from us and traveled on into a far lovlier and everlasting land. Although she has left, her memory remains. As a freshman and sophomore at CHS, Kathy was an ambitious member of Future Homemakers of America. Many fond memories of her remain behind and she will always be remembered by her friends. 39 CLASS OFFICERS AND REPRESENTATIVES: ROW 1: L. Ninedorf, J. Schomisch, P. Behnke. ROW 2: G. Ludwig, D. Junior Couple: Deanna Schneider and Gerry Vogt. The air was brisk and the sky was filled with stars. There was a hint of excitement in the air. It was the night of the 1968 Junior Prom. For the past weeks, the juniors and their advisors Miss Graichen, Mr. Hoffmann, Mr. Hunt, and Mr. Youngsteadt were working diligently. At 10 o'clock, the court of honor arrived. JoAnn Halbach escorted by Steve Pautz, Mary Kay Keuler escorted by Terry Friederichs, Ellen Pfeffer escorted by Tom Sohrweide, Judy Rollmann escorted by Steve Bruckner, and Kathy Schneider escorted by Joe Scholz. Following them, came the junior couple, Deanna Schneider and Gerry Vogt. Then entered King Eugene Schneider escorting Queen Diane Vogt. They were truly a royal couple. After the crowning ceremonies and the grand march, the King and Queen danced to Love Makes the World Go-Round which was performed by Gene Heier and his Orchestra. Suddenly it was all over. The couples began leaving, some taking a rose or a carnation to remind them of that wonderful night; of the fountain, the bridge, and the cherry blossoms. This one small flower held for them the memories of a truly unforgettable evening! HAPPINESS IS Diane Vogt, Eugene Schneider, Sandy Sket, Tom Woelfel, Queen Pat Hoerth, King Mike Bruckner, Richard Penning, Kathy Schneider, Dave Hoerth, Judy Rollmann. HOMECOMING '68 Homecoming '68 began its annual festivities at 1:30 p.m. October 18 with a spirited pep assembly. Each class presented a humorous skit depicting our spirit for the game that night. Succeeding the pep assembly, enthusiastic students looked onward as the traditional homecoming parade progressed. The parade featured the high school band, the 5 queen candidates, and various floats from classes and organi zations. That evening during halftime, Pat Hoerth was crowned 1968 Homecoming Queen by last year's queen, Sue Sims. The float and window display winners were also announced. After a thrilling 38 to 0 victory over Kiel, couples moved on to the dance. Here they found the old gym transformed into a ball room of Happiness. Couples danced to music provided by Herbie Schneider and his orchestra. The court was presented at 10:30. It consisted of Queen Pat Hoerth escorted by King Mike Bruckner, Judy Rollmann escorted by Dave Hoerth, Kathy Schneider escorted by Rich Penning, Sandy Sket escorted by Tom Woelfel, and Diane Vogt escorted by Eugene Schneider. Though the event was over at 12:00, the wonderful times will not be forgotten. 56 HOMECOMING ’68 Homecoming Court Third Place Float: rack the Raiders Sophomore Class Pat Hoerth after being crowned Homecoming Queen Second Place Float: I Spider Defeat Future Home makers of America Grand March: Sandy Sket, Tom Woelfel, Queen Pat Hoerth and King Mike Bruckner. 57 The yearly Sweetheart Hop, sponsored by the Sophomores, again was attended by many young couples. The event was highlighted by the coronation when Sandy Geiger escorted by Darrell Sturtz was crowned the Sweetheart Queen for 1969 by last year's queen Sue Reinl. All attended agreed that the transformation of the gymnasium into an enchanted ballroom was most appealing. The court included Joyce Wagner escorted by Dan Lorenz, Renee Daun escorted by Glen Loose, Sue Keuler escorted by Rich DeLabio, Lynn Diedrich escorted by George Fox, and Queen Sandy Geiger escorted by Darrell Sturtz. The National Honor Society has once again had a most successful year under the guidance of Mrs. Lutterman, Advisor; Steve Bruckner, President; Francis Satzer, Vice President; and Mary Meyer, Secretary. Perhaps the biggest event was the College-Tech Day which was held at CHS for the first time this year. The National Honor Society with the aid of Mr. Skarda sponsored this day which gave all juniors and seniors a much better outlook on colleges and technical schools in the state. Again this year, the Science Fair was held which was started last year by Paul Grittner, a former member of the society. Last year not only up-coming seniors were chosen for National Honor Society membership, but also upcoming juniors. This way there will always be some members who have belonged the previous year and so can carry on better. All members are chosen by the faculty for their character, scholarship, citizenship, and service. Therefore, each and every member should be proud to belong to this organization. 64 STUDENT COUNCIL Student Government in Action ROW 1: J. Geiger, R. Gasch, G. Roewer, S. Pautz, P. Schierl, L. The Student Council, under the guidance of Mr. Drone and Mr. Schuknecht, directed the activities of Chilton High this year. A main activity was the direction of the Homecoming parade and halftime activities. The Student Council also had the responsibility of selecting assemblies and preparing a student conduct and dress code. The President's duties were to introduce the performers at the assembly programs and to present the first-5 on Monday Mornings. The officers for this year were: Terry Friederichs, President, Judy Rollmann, Vice-President, and Pat Woelfel, Secretary-Treasurer. The Executive Committee consisted of the officers, and Kathy Schneider and Joe Scholz. The Student Council should be commended for the fine job they did this year. 65 A. F. S ROW 1: N. Gasch, L. Since its beginning, the A.F.S. has become one of the largest organizations in our school. Its purpose is to promote goodwill and understanding among the different countries and give foreign students the chance to live for one year in the United States as well as to send American students abroad. This year, Chilton High was not only fortunate to have their own foreign exchange student, but was also able to send one of our students abroad. Rabeab Naudom, from Thailand spent a year in Chilton with the Robert Mand family. Judy Rollmann, a senior, left in January to spend her year abroad in Brazil. Chilton High School can be quite proud of her. This year, various projects were sponsored to help raise money to support Americans abroad and our own student. All in all, it was a very successful year. Advisor was Mr. Skarda. Officers included Doug Steege, president, Jean Schaff, Vice-president; Kris Euclide, secretary and Mary Thurwachter, treasurer. 66 ART CLUB ROW 1: M. Mischo, B. Montero, G. Fox, A. Coffeen, P. The Band, under the direction of Marvin Hoffmann had a very busy, but worthwhile year. Beginning, in the fall, the band worked hard to produce a very successful homecoming show. They also presented a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert. In February, they presented a special Concert for the student body. Its unique Big Band Sound was enjoyed by all. The next event was the solo-ensemble contest. Long hours of practice went into preparing for this. In addition, they participated in the Memorial Day Parade. Last summer, the band did something new. They performed at the Wisconsin State Fair. It was agreed that this should become an annual event. The year was concluded with the Band's performance at the Graduation Ceremonies. 68 FROM CHS BAND M. Under the direction of Mr. Nelson, the club participated in many activities including, making pom pons and selling them along with booster buttons. They also ushered at basketball games. The money they raised through these activities enabled them to purchase Mazers. The C Club's aim is to promote athletics and good sportsmanship. The members of the C Club are honored at the annual athletic banquet. 71 HILLCREST ROW 1: M. Parker, G. Sohrweide, R. Daun, K, Euclide, S. Sebora, I. Lewandowski, R. Fox. ROW 2: S. Miller, D. Under the direction of Mrs. Flemming, the Hillcrest staff managed to put out an interesting newspaper each month throughout the school year. Along with reporting sport stories and news, the Hillcrest provided us with a variety of features, including editorials, poems, student and teacher's opinions and creative writing. Much credit should be given to Mrs. Flemming and the Hillcrest Staff for the fine job they have done this year. Few students realize the hard work involved in publishing a monthly newspaper. Each issue is planned and reporters and artists receive their assignments. Then starts the long work of production. But always, as on schedule the Hillcrest is finished by the final Friday of the month, the day it is to come out. Staff heads for this year included: Sue Miller, Editor; Assistant Editor, Kris Euclide; News Editor, Mary Diedrich, Francis Satzer; Feature Editors, Carol Vice, Gene Weber; Art Editor, Dede Drone, Ina Lewandowski; Layout Editor, Diane Gruber, Kathy Hertel; Production Editor, Rosalie Steiner, Mary Schaefer; Distribution, Diane Hansen, Mary Parker. 72 TIGERETTE ANNUAL STAFF: ROW 1: S. Under her direction were Assistant Editor, Nadine Gasch; Co-Business Managers, Kris Euclide and Sandy Sket; Art Editor, Mary Thurwachter; Class Editor, Kathy Schneider; and Organization Editor, Kathy Salm. Diane Vogt gave the staff a big lift by typing many of the write-ups. A great deal of work goes into each and every page of the Annual. Pictures must be taken and write-ups written. Lay ups must then be drawn up and the photos and articles arranged. Ads have to be taken and the entire annual layed out. It's a hard job, but with the excellent advising of Mr. Augsburger it all ends up to be very worthwhile. 73 The purpose of the Pep Club is to instill school spirit at games and pep assemblies. This year's activities included making pep signs, organizing skits for pep assemblies, de- the hoop for basketball games and selling booster buttons. Last year, they raised enough money to buy a school banner. Their next goal is to buy smaller emblems of schools in the conference and display them around our gym. This year's officers included Mike Hauser, President, Sandy Sket, Vice President, Mary Kay Keuler, Secretary-Treasurer. Miss Duncan was advisor. PEP Cheerleaders: N. Salm, S. Geiger, M. Ott, N. Above all, it took the help of many people, especially the staff members. The TIGER-ETTE could have never been completed if it hadn’t 17 Mill Street been for them. They were the ones who did any Chilton, Wisconsin job assigned them. They encouraged me when I was 849-2822 ready to give up. It was the staff members who were always eager and ready to work. Thanks should be given to Kathy Salm, Kathy Schneider, Sandy Sket and Mary Thurwachter, the regular staff members, for all they have done. Thanks and recognition should be given to Nadine Gasch for all the work she has put into this book, to Diane Vogt for all her help in typing up pages, to Kris Euclide our co-business manager, to Mary Diedrich for making the pictures fit the pages and taking snaps for us, to Kathy Kratzke for helping out when there was a deadline to meet, to those members who obtained ads, and to all others who in any way helped. It was greatly appreciated. Finally, thanks should be given to Mr. Augsburger for taking pictures, and for all his help and patience with us. Also to Steve Kratzke who assisted him. We all worked diligently to try to make this year’s T1GERETTE worthwhile. Our goal was to make it interesting for you to page through and enjoy. We hope we have been successful in doing so. — ED. 106 SENIOR RECORDS AMEL, JAMES: Art Club 4; Pep Club 3, 4. BAIRD, VIRGINIA: FHA 4; Pep Club 2. BASLER, JOHN: Football 1.
