Richmond 2 Dedication To you Mr. Pautz, we dedicate this edition of the 1967 Tigerette. As advisor to the Future Farmers of America, you have brought much recognition to Chilton High. You have coached numerous state and national judging teams which have received excellent ratings. Because of your efforts, the Chilton Chapter itself has received superior state ratings. You are perhaps the key figure in the success of the FFA organization. Mr. Pautz grew up in the Chilton area and graduated from Chilton High School in 1942. After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree, he returned to Chilton as an Agriculture teacher and has since received his Master’s Degree. 3 Administration Dear Students, If each of you were asked what you wanted most in life the answer in many cases would very likely be, “success and happiness.” Yet how much thought has been given to the ingredients that make up these two goals and to the price one must pay to attain them? Success is dependent upon knowledge, skill, character, and service and is achieved through study, dedication, industry, and initiative. Happiness comes from within and flourishes on simple goodness, a clear conscience, and a proper sense of values. It cannot be purchased with money nor captured through power but must be nurtured in tolerance, generosity, and understanding. You young people are laying the foundation upon which your future hopes and aspirations will stand. Seize your opportunities now and build for true success and happiness. Best wishes, A. W. Gordon Superintendent Board Of Education A. W. Larson, D. Holst, G. Bloomer, A. Horst, D. Aebischer 1 Dear Students, Graduation is perhaps the paramount objective of every student in high school. Unfortunately, few students realize that there is more to it than receiving a diploma and going through the graduation ceremony. It is also the culmination of your high school record. The importance of the record you have left behind should not be underestimated. It is a clear indication of your abilities, character and personality. Y our record is the best means of evaluating your potential that there is. Remember this: We judge ourselves by what we think we can do--Others judge us by what we have already done. Your school record is part of what you have already done. It should be a source of pride and accomplishment. It has been said that: “Too many young people itch for what they want without scratching for it.” Fulfill your desire for success and happiness with ambition, industry and persistence. Good Luck! At 10:30, they watched as the court consisting of Nancy Hoerth and Bob Koch, Sherri Fritschka and George Lax, Kathryn Reinkober and Ron Nicolay, Kathy Scholz and A1 Geiser, and Mary Thielmann and Bill Ludwig marched to the chair amidst the garden scene where Shirley Woelfel was then crowned Queen of the 1966 Junior Prom by her escort Les Schneider. The King and Queen then led the grand march in which all the couples took part. Three hours of dancing in an atmosphere set by soft lights and dreamy music then followed during which couples visited and had refreshments in the beautifully decorated punchroom while others made wishes as they tossed coins into The Olde Wishing Well. Before leaving at 12:30 for the post prom party at the Altona, all took one last backward glance at what would remain in their memories forever. The night of From a Misty Garden. The students were overwhelmed when five of our faculty teachers including: Mr. Fritz, Mr. Fitzpatrick, Mr. Kleine, Mr. Martorano, and Mr. Sandberg dressed in attire that previewed what the girls would be wearing at the evening dance. They then led the student body in a fiery cheer. Immediately following the Pep Assembly, students assembled along the streets of Chilton to watch the Homecoming parade featuring the Chilton High School band, the queen candidates, and the ingeniously created floats. The undefeated Chilton Tigers were challenged by the New Holstein Huskies at 8 p.m. on Morrissey Field that evening. The mighty Tigers captured the fans emotions with their action-filled plays ending the first-half with a 19-13 lead. During the halftime, Mr. Hoffmann presented a performance with his band which consisted of a series of hilarious errors that a band may make despite the endless hours of practice. The skit was entitled Band Bloopers. ” Following this, Diane Scholz, last year's homecoming Queen, presented her crown to the new 1966-67 Queen, Rosemary Pfeffer. In the second half, the Tigers increased their margin of scoring for a 32-13 victory. After the thrilling game, many of the fans proceeded to the gym where the soft strains of Herbie Schneider and his Band were presented. The couples danced in the Autumn Splendor decor of the magically transformed gym until the stroke of midnight. Before the annual became what it is, many hours were spent in planning, picture-taking, getting ads, composing write-ups, and working with layouts, first on rough drafts and finally on good copy sheets to be sent to the company. Few students realize the work that must be put into the Hillcrest. Each issue is planned and reporters and artists receive their assignments. The story is written and the long work of production is started. As the final copy is assembled, editors breathe a sigh of relief, but even as they do, work is started on the next issue. Each year members of the chapter develop a program of work including projects and experiences which will aid them in working toward the purposes of their organization. Their motto is Toward New Horizons. It reminds members that their contributions to home life today will influence the home of tomorrow. Throughout the year, the members worked hard to make the organization a success and a contribution to the school. The girls acted under the supervision of Miss Diane Wilson. Posters and announcements by past forensic workers brought out many CHS students in all catagories of forensic work this year. As a result, eliminations had to be held in almost every division. With the best speakers in the school, Chilton headed for the sectionals hoping to return for the third year in a row with the league trophy. Those students earning a ratings at league went on to the District meet in Oshkosh. All A ratings from there went on to the state contest held in Madison. Forensics is open to all students who are interested in developing their speaking ability. It provides a pathway along which interesr can expand. Some of the divisions in which students may participate a.e prose and poetry interpretive reading, extemporaneous speaking, public address, original and non-original oratory, declamation, and play reading. The Bombers had a real fine ball club, but the Tigers balanced offensive and defensive alignments were just too potent as the 31-13 score proved. The following week the Tigers took to the highways and were faced with the Cedar Grove Rocket aggregation. This game proved to be a defensive struggle as the final score indicated — Tigers 24--Rockets 13--No. 2. The Tigers returned home to host the Kiel Raiders who were picked as a darkhorse. The Raiders, however, just couldn’t get anything generated, and the Tigers just wouldn’t stop pouring it on. No. 3 was notched in the Tiger record books with the 41-6 victory. Homecoming, September 30, proved to be somewhat of a challenge as the New Holstein Huskies come to town gunning for a victory. They were rough and rugged for the first half, but were snowed under in the 2nd canto with a final score of 23-13. Tiger Homecoming 1966 was a success and No. 4 was on the Tiger score-board. Sheboygan Falls was the Tigers 5th hurdle to cross, and they did just that in a tremendous offensive performance with a 47-25 Falcon drubbing. This was the turning point--No. 5— TIGERS - 1966 CHAMPS WAS FULLY IN VIEW. Next, Valders was the Tiger's's prey on the Viking's home grounds. The final score on that misty evening was Tigers 27 - Vikings 6. No. 6. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1966, PLYMOUTH FIELD, 8 p.m., CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN. TIGERS vs. PANTHERS. The Tigers were fully aware of the challenge and consequences, of this encounter; they proved they were championship material. They knew they could win and did just that with a brilliant 25-13 thriller. It was a nip and tuck battle right from the whistle, but the Tiger's explosive aerial attack and consistant containing defensive alignment showed their finesse when the pressure was at its peak. No. 7. 78 Co-captain JOHN BRENNER MIKE FLEMMING TERRY FLUHR Co-captain JOHN HAUSER Co-captain TOM THURWACHTER Co-captain DON McHUGH Coming back to the home field, the Tigers closed out one of the finest football seasons ever witnessed by Chilton fans. This final fame, a sterling 49-0 victory over Elkhart Lake marked the Tigers as 1966 EWC Football Champions. It also marked the final moments of high school football participation for 18 graduating seniors. JOSEPH SCHLAEFER 92 Compliments of JAMES KNAUF M.D. Compiling an annual involved considerably more work than we'd anticipated upon accepting the job as staff editors last May. Little did we realize then that we'd be spending study halls, weekends, nights and almost every other spare minute we had at times in a frantic effort to complete pages that would meet everyone's approval. Deadlines were always staring us in the face and lack of information for write-ups, or pictures for layouts, often left us wondering if the annual would be completed at all. But now, thinking back, we do recall a few fun times and must admit that it really wasn't all that bad--all the time at lea st! These few words put aside, we now present to you Chilton High's 1967 TIGERETTE. We have tried to make it interesting and fun to read and page through. Our one hope is that you'll find it enjoyable and a worthwhile remembrance of this past school year. Finally, many thanks go to Mr. Augsburger for rushing pictures to us when we needed them, Mr. Schabach for the senior gloss prints, the staff members who collected ads, and anyone else who helped in any way. We greatly appreciated your help and along with one final thank-you, again hope that you'll find this TIGERETTE very worth-while owning.
