GORDON Graduation is a time that high school students look forward to with eager anticipation. Regardless of what hopes and aspirations you may have there are fundamental needs that confront you all, and only through the development of proper attitudes, skill, and understanding can these needs be met. You will need KNOWLEDGE, the ability to gain insight, make decisions and develop new ideas and approaches on the basis of your accumulated learning experiences. You will need CHARACTER to reach just solutions of the many problems confronting you as an individual and as a member of society. You will need AMBITION, ever reaching and striving for loftier goals; COURAGE to do what is right in the face of pressures and adversity; and STAMINA to retain your ideals and convictions and to fight the good fight in the years ahead. Have you as an individual taken advantage of all the opportunities available to you to work toward this end: Time will tell. Good luck. There are two age old sayings that you as a graduating senior might give some thought to. One is: All men seek happiness without exception; they all aim at this goal, however different the means they use to obtain it. The other: Happy is the soul that has something to look forward to with hope. Perhaps without even realizing it happiness is a paramount goal that we all are trying to achieve in our present and future lives. Your happiness depends on the pride you can take in your past accomplishments and in the optimism you have for your future success. Your school record should be both a source of pride and optimism. It is the wish of the entire faculty that each of you find happiness in your future. 4 PRINCIPAL JOHN SANDBURG Board Of Education SCHOOL BOARD: D. Aebischer, A. W. Larson. G. Bloomer, R. Gasch. A. The sounds of clicking typewriter keys and voices discussing layouts and write-ups could be heard in the annual room as deadlines drew near. With much hard work and determination the staff managed to meet each deadline and produce an annual which they could look back to with satisfaction. SEATED: Kathy Koehler, editor. Under the direction of Mrs. Flemming, the Hillcrest staff published its newspaper once a month throughout the year. In addition to reporting news and sports stories, the Hillcrest provided a variety of other features--monthly columns, students opinions, teacher of the month, and creative writing. Few students realize the work that must be put into the Hillcrest. Each issue is planned and reporters and artists receive their assignments. When the news breaks, the stories are written. Then starts the long work of production. Each story is proofread, dummied, laid out, and stenciled. A title is added, artwork is done, and the page is ready to be run off. Staff members . • rush frantically to complete all this work before the final Friday of the month, the day the Hillcrest must come out. As the final copy is assembled, editors can breathe a sigh of relief, but even as they do so, work on the next issue has already begun. 49 ROW ONE: T. Gebhart, B. Hoffman, M. Hatchell, B. Ludwig, J. Each year new members are chosen from the junior and senior classes on the basis of these ideals by the faculty of Chilton High. This year the National Honor Society members elected officers for the first time in the history of the organization. They were: president, Lee Heine; vice-president, John Towers; and secretary-treasurer, Kathy Koehler. The members of the society have continued their book selling project this year as well as other money raising projects. This money will be put into a scholarship fund for one of the members. 52 dorCHSiCS ROW ONE- C. Ludwig, B. Hoffmann, B. Wagner, P. Larson, J. Steiner, L. Hatchell. ROW TWO: M. Diedrich, K. Bosch, J. Its purposes are the development of public speaking skills, poise, and self confidence in its participants. Students may take part in any of nine separate divisions in forensics. These are extemporaneous speaking, declamation, interpretive reading of poetry, interpretive reading of prose, public address, original oration, non-original oration, four minute speech, and play reading. Two students are selected by the school to participate in each category at the league meet. In the case of play reading, one group is selected. Those who receive A-ratings at league may participate in the district meet at Oshkosh State University. A-winners there are eligible for the State Forensics Meet at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Those receiving A's at state win gold medals. 53 Walk Zogether. Zalk Zoget her... ROW ONE: J. Our student AFS Chapter proudly boasts one of the largest enrollments of all CHS clubs, despite the fact that this organization originated in Chilton only three years ago. Its success can be attributed to the hard work and determination of enthusiastic members and the officers, who were: Jori Humke - -president; Tom Hilbert--vice-president; Ann Gordon--secretary; and John Casper--treasurer. A hearty thanks also to Mr. Skarda, the AFS advisor. Three foreign students have been granted scholarships to spend one year in Chilton. This year we were privileged to have Sergio Velis from Santiago, Chile, spend a year with the Niles Papendieck family through an AFS scholarship. Many activities were accomplished this year to raise the required amoun of money which is turned over to the adult chapter to support the future student. Among these, taffy apples and hot coffee were sold at the games, tickets were sold for the Kiwanis movies, a hootenany was planned, as well as a dance; and the annual bermuda day was held. The goal of the American Field Service is to promote international good will and understanding, as expressed in the motto symbolic of AFS: Walk together, talk together, o ye peoples of the earth; Then and only then shall ye have peace. 54 Cibrary Club ROW ONE: M. Under her direction, they learn to prepare new books for circulation, check them out, file their cards, and shelve them when they are returned. The student librarians become acquainted with the library and are available to help students find books and pamphlets. The members also assist Mrs. Hill in the grade school library. During National Library Week their services are rewarded with a dinner which is paid for with the money collected from overdue book fines. ROW ONE: D. Hoerth, S. Gerner, B. Graf, D. Gruber, D. Of course, there is more that composes a future homemaker than having the ability to cook and sew. The members must be active in the organization by attending the meetings and taking part in various activities. Some of the purposes of the organization are: to promote a growing ap- preciation of homemaking, to emphasize the importance of worthy home membership, to promote international goodwill, to further interest in home economics, and to provide wholesome individual and group recreation. Among many of the national goals, their most successful was Tap New Talents. The F. H. A. sponsored a talent show which proved to discover many new talents. F. H. A. members work diligently to prove that they are capable of managing a home successfully. Whenever they encounter problems, Miss Wilson, the advisor, is willing to help them solve them. 56 ROW ONE J. Schad, C. Wagner, V. Diedrich, M. Sturtz, K. Roepcke, P. Wagner. ROW TWO: J. Juckem, S. A. as it is commonly known, is the national organization of, by, and for the boys studying vocational agriculture in public secondary schools. Among other things, the members learn through active participation how to conduct a meeting, speak in public, work cooperatively, solve their problems, and assume civic responsibility. The F. F. A. is under the guidance of Mr. Pautz. The organization has a very active program of work resulting in wide participation in both state and local activities. Numerous awards were received by the organization this year, among them first prize on a homecoming float. 58 ROW ONE: S. Burbey, G. Koehler, A. Lisowe, L. Bangart, R. Schmitt, T. Schoen, A. Mueller. Many old members were back to fill their standard places while the new members adjusted very readily. Yet, there was a surprising amount of new members. Each member was eager to find out how they in the future months would help to contribute to the success of the Mixed Chorus and Glee Club. The point system again was used. A member can obtain a certain number of points by singing a solo or being in an ensemble. Points also were awarded for singing in church choirs, attending concerts out of town, and accompanying certain groups. At the end of the year, special recognition was given to those who accumulated an outstanding number of points. Yet, the members found out all the hard work and effort paid off at the spring and Christmas concerts where the group had a chance to perform in front of an audience. Exchange concerts also proved to be very successful this year. 63 Q-Q-A- ROW ONE: S. Geiger, J. Propson, G. Pethan, S. Gerner, K. Roepcke. S. Bittner, R. Hephner, C. Roewer, J. Gruett, P. Berrens, L. Under the direction of Mrs. Eichhorst, club members develop awareness of French culture through participating in various activities. Some of these are writing to French pen pals, watching films in French, and caroling at Christmas. At the end of the year the club holds a French dinner which includes dishes from several of the provinces of France. The officers who worked to accomplish these goals this year were: Marilyn Lintner, president, Kathy Koehler, vice-president; Suzi Crawford, secretary; Marilyn Moehrke, treasurer; and Dyane Aebischer, sergeant at arms. 66 “6” Club ROW ONE: A. Mr. Thome set up many projects, the first of which was a car-wash that proved to be well worth the boys' efforts--$50 worth. (This definitely met with Mr. Eisner's approval!) Another successful moneymaking scheme was the selling of pom-poms at homecoming. A dance was planned for '66. The boys ushered at the basketball games as they did at football games and this enabled more members to participate in the off-season sports. The goal of the C Club is to raise money for lettermen who have lettered ten or more times in their high school career. The money will go towards buying blue blankets with gold trim and will be issued at the annual Athletic Banquet. 67 68 LEFT TO RIGHT: K. Kobriger, K. Reinkober, G. Miller, D. Veit, R. Pfeffer. WAGNER, ELAINE - Library Club 1, The seniors of '66 got their first taste of the high school way of life during September of 1962. This was tne first time we had ever been together as a class. In this one meeting, we got a peek through the window at what our next four school years would be like. In the following few weeks we settled down to classes, got acquainted with the teachers and made new friends. Someone had to run things, of course, so we chose Bob Miller, Howard Schneider, Jane Goeldi, and John Nelson as our first semester officers. Advising us through-out the year on class projects and activities were Miss Erman and Mr. Augsburger. Our first big project was to aecide on a theme for our float and window display. Although we did not present a prize-winning float, our window entitled, We Sail to Victory, received first prize. The cheerleaders chosen to lead the freshmen were: Cathy Petzold, Donna Veit, Bev Larson, and Kathy Koehler. New class officers were elected during the second semester. They were: Dan Hertel, Tom Hilbert, John Towers, and Bev Larson. Finally we moved ahead to the upper half of the underclassmen. As Sophomores, we elected Kathy Koehler, Susan Nicolay, Bob Miller, and Mike Keuler during the first semester. Homecoming was approaching rapidly. Because Chilton was playing Plymouth that night, our float slogan appropriately read, We’ll Put Plymouth on the Rocks. For this we received second prize. During second semester we elected these new officers: Loren Wagner, Karen Bartel, Joe Gruber, and Mike Keuler. The second semester had special importance to all of us. This was the semester for the Sophomore cupid to pull back the bowstring and feature the annual Heart 2, 3,4; French Club 3; G. A. A. 1, 2 3 4' A.F.S. 2 3 4. By popular vote, Donna Veit was chosen to reign as our class sweetheart. Her escort was John Towers. Other members of the court of honor were: Sue Nicolay, Kathy Koehler, Bev Lar -son, and Jane Goeldi. Their escorts were: Howard Schneider, Dave Schaefer, Dan Hertel, and Tom Hilbert. We entered our junior year with elated spirits. One of our first duties was to elect class officers. Steve Burbey, Donna Veit, Jim Schmidl-kofer, and Ray Hoerth were elected. This year we added another class advisor, Miss Wilson. As school got underway, we were soon involved in a mad whirl of activities. That year, our football team, under the direction of coaches Thompson and Thome did a great job in producing a successful football season. The theme of our float was. We'll Extract 'Em. Finally second semester rolled a-round and it was time to choose class officers. The all-boy selection included Bob Hume, Jim Lenz, Fred Mueller, and Paul Ditter. Bob Hume was chosen president, and a-long with this honor came another--that of being Prom King. The five boys chosen by the class for the court of honor were: Howard Schneider, Dan Hertel, LeRov Schmidlkofer, Jim Lenz, andjim Schmidlkofer. Bob Hume reigned with his queen, Nancy Hackbarth. The five boys chose as their dates: Kathy Koehler, Donna Ammerman, Marilyn Moehrke, Joan Roehrig, and Donna Veit. Thanks to the decorations and other committees who organized the theme Blue Hawaii, the dreamy music of the Jay Andy Dance Band, and the hardworking juniors, the Prom was a great success. Jim Schmidlkofer and Lee Heine were selected as Badger Boys and Sue Crawford was chosen as Badger Girl. WESTERHOUSE, CAROLYN - Mixed Chorus 1, 2, 3, 4; Band 1, 2, 3, 4; G. A. WOLFF, SUSAN - Library Club 4; Glee Club 4; F. H. A. 2, 3, 4. On August 30, 1965, we entered Chilton High with mixed emotions. We were sad at the thought that this was our last year at Chilton High. Yet, each senior was looking anead to new horizons. Our first auty was to elect new class officers. Tney were: Steve W'oelfel, Dave Schaefer, Linda Urban, and Diane Scholz. The year started with a whirl of activities. Picked as the theme of our Homecoming float was, When Chilton Clicks, Valders Shutters. This won third place. Our window display, Pinocchio 'Nose' We'll Win, received second. The Queen, Diane Scholz, and King, Steve Woelfel, reigned over the Homecoming festivities. The Court of Honor included Nancy Hackbarth and Bob Hume, Donna Veit and Paul Ditter, Bev Larson and Loren Wagner, and Kathy Koehler and Larry Bruckner. This year we welcomed CHS's third foreign exchange student. Sergio Velis, commonly called Checho, came to us from Santiago, Chile. We all enjoyed getting to know him and will always remember him with fond memories. Our journalism departments were headed by Kathy Koehler, editor of the 1966 TIGERETTE, and Marilyn Lintner, editor of our monthly publication, THE HILLCREST. After the second semester, class officers were elected to serve the seniors for the last time. They were: Lee Heine, Sergio Velis, Jim Meyer, and Tom Cullen. Jane Goeldi received the D. A. R. award for her outstanding civic qualities. Kathy Koehler scored highest on the Betty Crocker Homemaker test given to interested senior girls and won the Betty Crocker Award. The calling cards and announcements were ordered.
