Nicolay, G. Lax, T. Thurwachter, P. Boehnlein, J. Pfeffer. The annual Sophomore Heart Hop this past year presented a lovely evening for all who attended the festivity. After hours of planning, constructing, replanning, and reconstructing, the Sophomore class transformed the old gym into an evening paradise designed to add a great deal to the excitement and joy of all. 27 “Evening Jn Rome” Though it was thundering and lightning on the evening of May 15, 1964, it did not affect the atmosphere of the gym decorated to the theme of An Evening in Rome. The many couples who attended danced eagerly to the music of Duke Janda from 8:00 P. M. until 1:00 A. M. At 10:30, in the midst of the Roman atmosphere, the Queen, Linda Friederichs, was crowned by the King, Dick Depies. The court of honor was also presented at that time. It consisted of the following: Lynn Hertel and Eugene Hansen, Kathy Gebhart and Vern Gasch, Nora Sebora and Jerry Lodes, Kathy Geiser and Richard Koehler, and Shirley Miller and A1 Whitby. For many weeks the Juniors worked diligently to make their Prom a success. The gym, decorated with pillars, a Roman fountain, and scenes from Rome, gave it a true Roman atmosphere. The punch room, decorated in the air of a Roman cafe, was also a delight for those who had refreshments there. As the couples left the Evening in Rome, they attended a post-prom party held at the Altona located on the outskirts of New Holstein. The night of May 15, 1964, is now a delightful memory that all who attended will cherish throughout their lives. Queen Linda Frederichs, King Dick Depies. American Held Service In the two years since AFS has been founded in Chilton, it has become one of the biggest clubs in our school. The purpose of the AFS is to promote goodwill and understanding among the different countries and give foreign students the chance to live for one year in the USA, as well as to send American students abroad. The members of the AFS student chapter have worked hard and with enthusiasm. Some of our many activities were the sale of taffy apples, Tiger pins, Christmas cards, and an AFS Weekend. The main purpose of the club is to run the library as efficiently as possible when Mrs. Lutterman is not present. The jobs of the Librarian are: preparing new books for shelves; collecting books; typing book pockets, cards, and labels; pasting book pockets and date due slips; and covering books. Other activities taken on by the club are making tray decorations for the hospital and old folks home, making bulletin boards and posters. Our reward comes at the end of the year when the club members go out to eat--on the money collected from over-due books. BOTTOM ROW: C. Roewer, M. Flanagan, K. Roepke, B. Wachter, J. Propson, B. Jorensics Guilds Excellence Jn Speech Activities There is a growing enthusiasm in speech activities at Chilton High School. Forensics provides a pathway along which this interest can expand. In the sectionals, held in Brillion, CHS earned 7 A ratings. These people then went to the District meet in Oshkosh. Those people earning A ratings there went to the state meet held in Madison. Some of the divisions in which students may participate are prose and poetry interpretive reading, extemporaneous speaking, public address, original and non-original oratory, declamation, and play reading. At the sectional meet in Brillion, Chilton won top honors, sharing the trophy with New Holstein. Forensics is open to all students with an interest in developing an effective speaking ability. It is through the hard work of both the participants and the coaches that Chilton High School has been able to do so well in all of the Forensics meets. 54 BOTTOM ROW: M. Hume, R. Holst, L. Ware, S. Rational Honor Society The National Honor Society ideals are: character, scholarship, citizenship, and service. New members of the Society are chosen each year, on the basis of these ideals, from the Junior and Senior Classes. The Chilton High Faculty elects the members. On Award's Day last May eight members were inducted. There were many tense students as eight teachers circulated throughout the audience looking for the chosen ones. Each Junior and Senior knew that if he felt a tap on his shoulder he was in! The new chosen were: Juniors, LeAnna Ware, Shirley Miller, Ruth Holst, Nick Casper, Alan Whitby, and Dick Koehler. The new Seniors were: Joyce Pagel, and Phyllis Schneider. The six Junior members who remained in school as Seniors this year have been more active than in previous years. Under the guidance of advisor, Mr. Soderlund, they have begun many new projects. One of the main projects was the selling of books for a nominal cost to the students, as a service to them. 55 ROW ONE: R. Steiner, D. Wettstein, S. Nicolay, K. Rollman, M. Thielmann, J. Nuss. future Homemakers Of America The Future Homemakers of America of Chilton High School began the 1965 year under a new advisor, Miss Wilson. She has helped the members to strive for the main goals of the organization which are to promote appreciation of homemaking, to emphasize the importance of worthy home membership, and to provide wholesome recreation for its members. Each member is required to attend the organization's meetings and to take an active part in the local and state programs. On December 5 the club's officers and twenty-one other hardworking members of the club attended an F. H. A. Workshop at Valders where they had the opportunity to participate in discussion groups on What Makes a Good Chapter. The workshop proved to be a truly rewarding experience for all who attended. All of the F. H. A. members worked diligently this year on moneymaking projects to make it possible for deserving members to attend the State Convention at Green Lake. Some of these included selling concessions at football games, and sponsoring dances for the student body. 61 future farmers Of America Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve. This is the meaningful motto which guides the Future Farmers of America in preparing themselves for all the agricultural fields of tomorrow. The F. F. A. is organized on a national basis through which the boys may secure practical business experience, act as their own instructors, and enjoy the fellowship of one another. Under the guidance of Mr. Pautz, the boys entered a float in the homecoming parade and were awarded second prize. Other money-making projects included selling garden seeds, light bulbs, and concessions at football and basketball games. Each year some of the money earned is used to finance a trip for the Senior members of the organization. A staunch and steady worker for the F. F. A. their advisor, Mr. Norman Pautz. The members have been saving for several years for a camera to take pictures of the games. In past years the C Club has not been extremely active; this year, however, their activities have increased under the guidance of their advisor, Head Coach Thompson. While engaging in many useful projects, the boys also had a lot of fun. C Club Officers President: A. Whitby Vice-President: M. Woelfel Secretary-Treasurer: J. To lead our class we chose Nick Casper as our first president. Other officers were Mike Fox, Ginny Engler, Linda Friederichs. Our advisors were Mr. Layman and Mr. Schuh. The next project confronting us was that of selecting a theme for our Homecoming float. The theme was We'll Gum 'em Up, ' for which we were awarded third place. Linda Friederichs, Sue Fox, Ginny Engler, and Nora Sebora were chosen as Frosh Cheerleaders. The new class officers for the second semester were: Dick Koehler, president, with Scott Wilson, Jan Woelfel, and Jerry Lodes as other officers. Our second year started with the election of class officers. We chose Gerry Woelfel, president, with Jerry Lodes, Jane Gordon, and Diane Keuler as the other officers. Our advisors were Miss Gronski and Mr. Layman. Linda Friederichs was among the cheerleaders for the Junior Varsity. Again, the annual homecoming arrived. As a class we decided to build our float to the theme of Sno' fooling, We'll Win, for which we won second place. As the second semester approached, we again chose class officers. They were Eugene Hansen, •president with Dick Depies, Lynn Hertel, and Shirley Kobeski as other officers. On February 9, our class sponsored the annual Sweetheart Hop. The Court consisted of Linda Friederichs, Lynn Hertel, Judy Mand, Leanna Ware, and Jan Woelfel. Judy Mand reigned as Sweetheart of 1963. The girls chose as their escorts A1 Whitby, Gerry Woelfel, John Schneider, Mike Thurwachter, and Nick Schaff, respectively. Many of our boys played Junior Varsity Basketball. Jerry Lodes, Scott Wilson, Paul Juckem, and A1 Whitby had the distinction of playing on the Varsity Team. Tom Schmeider was the only sophomore on the golf team. Now we were upperclassmen, and with this honor came the responsibility of newer and more important activities. We chose Dick Koehler as president and the other officers assisting him were Vern Gasch and Shirley Miller. Mrs. Keough and Mr. Layman served as advisors. Linda Friederichs and Ginny Engler were chosen as members of the Varsity Cheering Squad while Shirley Kobeski, Nora Sebora and Jane Gordon served on the Junior Varsity Squad. Weeks before Homecoming we started work on our float. It was entitled, We're Brewing Victory, for which we received first place. The most important class election was held the second semester. We chose Dick Depies as president. With this honor came another--that of being our Prom King. Other officers were LeAnna Ware and Carmen Winkler. May 15 was set aside for our Junior Prom. The five boys were voted to be on the court were Dick Koehler, Vern Gasch, Jerry Lodes, Eugene Hansen, and Alan Whitby. The five boys chose as their dates, Kathy Geiser, Kathy Gebhart, Nora Sebora, Lynn Hertel, and Shirley Miller. The theme of the prom was ’‘Evening in Rome. In early spring, the teachers chose Nick Casper and A1 Whitby as the two Badger Boys from Chilton High with LeAnna Ware as Badger Girl. Paul Juckem, Mike Woelfel, and A1 Whitby were named tri-captains for the football team. We had finally come to the last year as members of CHS. We elected Eugene Hansen as president with Ellenruth Seibenschuh, Gerry Woelfel, and Sharon Schommer as other officers. Mr. Schumacher, Mr. Hearden, and Mr. Schuler advised us on our last functions performed as students of CHS. On the Varsity Cheering Squad were Linda Friederichs, Ginny Engler, Shirley Kobeski, and Nora Sebora. This year we welcomed a new student into our class, Ellenruth Seibenschuh from West Germany. Ellenruth was our second foreign exchange student. We all enjoyed her very much and we will always remember her in our hearts. For our Homecoming we titled our float, Let's Make Oostbergers for which we won first place. Sue Hackbarth, Helen Franke, Diane Keuler, LeAnna Ware, and Shirley Miller were chosen queen candidates. They chose as their escorts Mike Woelfel, John Schneider, Nick Schaff, Mike Thurwachter, and A1 Whitby. Diane Keuler was chosen to reign as queen. The date was October 12. A1 Whitby and Shirley were chosen as flag raisers by the student body in the fall of the year. They took care of the school flag. Kathy Geiser was chosen as the DAR award winner. She was then eligible to enter the state contest. Paul Juckem and A1 Whitby were selected as A11-Eastern Wisconsin Conference football players. Our team finished in second place in conference play with an 8-1 record. This ended our four years of High School. Leaving the Halls of Ivy was indeed a sad thing for us to do, but with it brought wonderful memories we will not forget. June 6 finally came and after receiving the hard earned diplomas, the class of '65 had a fond farewell to their Alma Mater, Chilton High School. 87 On behalf of the annual staff I would like to give special recognition to Sharon Schommer for all the work she did on this yearbook even though she was not a regular staff member. Also I would like to thank Mr. Augs-burger for his patience with us and for all the help he gave us.---Ed. 88
