In the midst of the town, Against the horizon In peace and renown, Arises a building-- Our own Chilton High; Days that we spent there Have now all passed by We will ever remember The teachers we knew. And the friends that we made Will be memories, too. By Marlene Winkler 2 Dedication To you, Miss Haskey, Chilton High School's Classofl961 wishes to dedicate this edition of the Tigerette. We will ever remember you as a very good friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Those of us who have had classes in the business course will never forget your successful methods of teaching. Your capability and experience has helped our Hillcrest Staff to do excellent work in publishing the school paper. We hope that this book will show at least a part of our appreciation and thanks to you. 3 One very interesting use of yearbooks like this one, is to compare the pictures of the individuals in this year's book with the pictures of the same students in the yearbooks of three of four years ago. This comparison reveals the striking physical development that has taken place in that period of time. It would be even more striking if a way were open to make a visual comparison of the development of the mentalities, personalities and characters of the same individuals. Certainly there has been such growth. The amount of change that has taken place in each individual has depended on the use that each one has made of the opportunities for exercising his personal traits. Since there is no camera to offer such visual evidence of the developments of these characteristics, the belief in the improvements that have taken place must be based on less tangible evidence. The requests by prospective employers, colleges and training institutions of various kinds for the high school records of future personnel are proof that their experience proves high school graduates are the best candidates for a successful future. Requests are not made for just academic records either. They ask for estimates of intangible personal traits. It is evident they believe these things important and that they are developed in your school years. Many of you students have not completed your work in high school. You should make use of time and opportunity still left to you to grow to your maximum potential. You students who are graduating from high school deserve commendation for your many fine accomplishments. You have the best wishes of all of your teachers that you will continue to grow and develop to an even greater extent in the future. 4 Board of Education Board of Education: Mr. Bloomer. Senior History September '56, the class of '61 entered Chilton High School, 83 strong. At our first class meeting, we elected our first class officers; President, Rett Humke; Vice President, LeRoy Keuler; Secretary, Jerry Fox; and Treasurer, Kathy Hackbarth. There was no Homecoming because of the Asian Flu. Many class members joined various organizations and took part in many activities. Our boys were active in football, basketball, and track. The Freshmen-Sophomore football team and Freshmen basketball team both tied for second place. Freshmen cheerleaders were Jean Bartel, Sigrid Lunde, Diane Schmahl, and Alice Bloomer. Second semester brought new class officers with the following results; President, Leo Horst; Vice President, Alice Bloomer; Secretary, Jean Bartel; and Treasurer, Deedy Hephner. We entered our Sophomore year more confident and sure of ourselves. New class officers were; President, Jean Bartel; Vice President, Tom Reinkober; Secretary, Andy Meyer; and Treasurer, Alice Bloomer. Homecoming came fast. We entered our first float and even though we didn't win a prize, we had a lot of fun and we were proud of it. This year we were very active in many school activities. Again our boys were active in sports. Cheerleaders included Diane Schmahl backing the Varsity and Sigrid Lunde and Alice Bloomer backing the 'B' team. Second semester class officers included; President, Tom Reinkober; Vice President, Gilbert Woelfel; Secretary, Mary Lou Keuler; and Treasurer, LeRoy Keuler. The most important event this year was our April Showers dance in April. Ruth Neuber was chosen sweetheart. Her escort was Leroy Gebhart. We entered our Junior year quite proud because now we were upperclassmen. New class officers were; President, Diane Schmahl; Vice President, Sigrid Lunde; Secretary, Mary Woelfel; and Treasurer, Ruth Neuber. Homecoming approached quickly and we worked hard on our float. The theme was We'll Sink The Vikings featuring a huge Viking ship sinking in a sea of blue waves. Proudly we accepted first place and cheered our team on to a 19-12 victory over Valders. We were active in many organizations and now that we were upperclassmen, we held various offices in them. Our boys were very active in sports, many of them playing on the Varsity. Diane Schmahl and Jean Bartel cheered the 'A' team on, while Sigrid Lunde and Alice Bloomer backed the 'B' team. The second semester, with the Junior Prom, came all to quickly. Class officers included; President and Prom King, Gerald Olbrich; Vice President, Judy Salm; Secretary, Connie Clarine; and Treasurer, Ruth Schmahl. Gerald chose Mary Lou Keuler as his queen and together they reigned on May 6. The theme was Aloha and music was provided by Harry Rothman. The gym was decorated to the Hawaiian theme and the awaited evening passed all too quickly. September '60 brought the beginning of the end. To start things off right, we elected Paul Ziegelbauer as President; Mary Lou Keuler as Vice President; Sigrid Lunde as Secretary; and Diane Schmahl as Treasurer. Tom Reinkober and Mary Lou Keuler were chosen by the student body to be flag raisers. Football started with seven returning lettermen--Tom Reinkober, Bob Larson, Paul Ziegelbauer, LeRoy Keuler, Joe Woelfel, Gerald Olbrich, and Leroy Gebhart. Diane Schmahl, Sigrid Lunde, and Alice Bloomer led the cheers for the 'A' team. Seniors were active in many activities. They were represented on Hillcrest and annual staffs and were officers in many organizations. Then came our last Homecoming. Busily we worked on our float. The theme was We've Got A Whale Of A Team and featured a huge whale swimming in a sea of blue waves. At half-time we proudly cheered as it was announced that the Senior float had taken first place and that the student body had chosen Diane Schmahl to be queen. Her escort was LeRoy Keuler. The theme was Beatnik Band and Herbie Schneider provided the music. June 1 brought graduation. It also brought to an end four years of work, study, fun, and activities. The many experiences we enjoyed at Chilton High School will never be forgotten. 24 J CLASS OFFICERS Rosie Geiser, Treasurer; Sharon Urban, Secretary; Mary Beth Kruse, Vice-President; Emil Everix, President. During the half time they put on a performance entitled Beatnik Band.” The Christmas Concert proved to be very successful. Everyone who gathered for the performance on December 15 agreed that the band, with the help of Mr. Hoffmann, did a marvelous job. As the New Year approached, the members began to select their solos and ensembles for the annual Spring Festival. This year it was held in April at Plymouth. In May, the band as a whole entered the Music Festival and played their three selections. This was the first time the band wore their new uniforms. The year was closed with the band playing for Memorial Day and commencement. 40 ROW 1--Ruby Guenther, Mary Jo Ortlieb, Diane Schmahl. ROW 2--Beverly Pingel, Carol Bennin, Tony LaCrosse.
