Assembly programs are interesting to the student audience and they also furnish many students opporttuiities to plan programs and to speak and perform in them. One way we get to know our A. F. S. Student for the year is in an assembly. 4 Two of our most impressive assemblies are those presented at Christmas and at Easter by the Student Cotmcil. Something new this spring was a morning concert by the C.H.S. Band, Everyone will remember the tremendous applause when the band, accompanied by Judy Young, did the theme from The Apartment. And of course the biggest thrill of all this year was watching the space shot on TV. All Eyes Were On TV On Tuesday morning. February 20, on television sets placed in the auditorium, excited students witnessed the successful launching into space of Astronaut John Glenn. He completed the first of three thrilling orbits in 88. 29 minutes. Lgfgijir3ag Q'?..i KS? 5 5 A. F. S. Students View H V1 if Our American Field Service student this year was Ximena George-Nascimento Lara from Santiago, Chile. She was a member of the family of Dr. and Mrs. James V. Robinson. Une of thc pictures above shows her with Hewlett Robinson. Ximena was very active in school groups and gave many talks about her country to organizations in Ross County. Her amiable disposition and her gift for conversation won her many friends. They will always remember how she enjoyed drawing them into a stimulating debate on one of the many subjects that interested her. Ann Herron will spend the summer of 1962 on a farm in Germany instead of at her own farm home on the Richmon- dale Pike near Chillicothe. She will be staying with the Albert Oest family near Otterndorf in the northern part of Germany. Ande, as she is usually known, will be one of about 1,300 A. F.S. students spending the summer in homes in various European countries. Ann, a member of the National Honor Society, had an impor- tant role in the junior class play. 1555391 iw 'NVAWH1 'LnHgsfl .m 2s37??5'wjs V. 'iii 4 E., ll-'H Any Day At C. I-I. The administration of the complex school system of Chillicothe is in the able hands of the Board of Edu- cation who are given invaluable assistance by the other individuals pictured on these pages. This year has been a particularly busy one for the Board as the building program nears completion, the school population continues to explode, and funds are increasingly hard to find. Mr. Paul Hydell Superintendent, Chillicothe Public Schools Mr. Hydell is probably one of the busiest men in Chilli- cothe, In addition to the many long hours he devotes to the welfare of the children in the public Schools, he gives much time to worthwhile community activities. ,Q aims , gg fi X ii 1 HQ' - ii .QL .
