During his years as principal of C. H. S. Mr. Smith has taken time to teach a third-period class in United States History. History has been his great hobby as well as his teaching work. The life of Andy Jackson and the history of the Civil War are subjects par excellence. Numerous times Chillicothe clubs have listened to J. A. Smith lec- ture on history and foreign affairs. His daily conversa- tion, his class discussions, and his lectures are frequently sparked by anecdotes drawn from his Monroe County and his Chillicothe experiences and his extensive reading in history. The many ovations and honors which have come from Chillicothe organizations to Principal John A. and Citizen Smith attest to his qualities and virtues practiced most steadfastly. ' A A I' i !
