That enchanting music is provided for by the zodiac signs Leo, Cancer, Scorpio, Sagit- tarius, Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Aquila, Libra. For the years 1948-1949 the signs say that music of these years shall be particularly harmonious with very beautiful songs. lt says the hundred and forty blended voices that form the Girls Chorus are under the capable direction of Miss Patti Thompson. This group met each sixth period on Thurs- day and Fridays in the auditorium. That s where the glorious music comes from. It can be nothing but beautiful when Charlotte Taylor, the accompanist, and Donna Bakos, the assistant, play while they sing. The girls sang rounds, one, two and three-part songs, and all sorts of music from other countries. They especially enioyed sing- ing Old Smoky , a western folk tune, and Mistress Shady a two part song. During the football season, the girls sang many tight songs to lift the teams morale. Among others, some of the songs the girls sang were Pretty Maid Welcome, Sweet Springtime by Rubinstein, Juanita, Lady Moon by Loomis, A Vocal Encoun- er, O Sole Mio by di Capua, Vive L Amour,' Sing-A-Ling-A-Ling ' Southern Mel- odies Music in the Air The Dances by Lecome, O No John Aloha Oe by Queen Liliuokalani, Marianina , The Mock- ing Bird by Hawthorne. During the Yule- tide season, Christmas carols were sung. The Chorus didnt participate in many events, but the two programs that they were in were very good. On March 30 the Chorus was presented on the School Parade on the local radio station, WBEX. The songs con- sisted of Barcarolle by Oftenbach The Lost Chord by Sullivan, Celito Lindo, and Country Gardens . The group was also in the Spring Concert at the end of the year. All in all this years girls Chorus accom- plished much and enjoyed all the work they di . The C H S Swamu concentrates agaun and speaks loudly What us thus I see? Do I hear sweet musuc'?
