A newly organized club at C.H.S., the Fellow¬ ship of Christian Athletes, was sponsored by Mr. Ron Ball. Money-making projects included sponsoring a car wash, receiving donations toward a cookware set, and erecting a booth for Carnival Day. A Fellowship of Christian Athletes Sunday was held at which time members held services at community churches. Some members will attend the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp in North Carolina. The Girls’ Athletic Association and the Mono¬ gram Club sold concessions at home basketball games in order to raise money for club projects. To close out the year’s activities, the Monogram Club sponsored the annual Awards Assembly and presented each Senior Athlete with a blanket. A new club — The Inter-Club Council — was organized by the Student Coopera¬ tive Association. This club coordinated fund-raising projects for clubs and classes. Some projects and activities completed by the S.C.A. this year were supervising assemblies, furnishing a bike rack, buying nets for the tennis courts, coordinating Homecoming activities and supervising Carnival Day. The National Honor Society furnished Easter baskets for retarded children, supplied paint for renovating the Warrior head in the gym and purchased an ad in the yearbook. The club closed out its year’s activities by inducting new members, sponsoring a sock-hop and enjoying a picnic. ' 53 F.B.L.A. and French Club Are Active In Wide Range of Projects Money-making projects for the F.B.L.A. included selling candles and sponsoring a variety show. Proceeds were used to buy a filing cabinet for the business department and a chair for Mrs. Roberta Clifton, school secretary. A donation was made to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad. “Mange, hois sois heureux” was the theme of the French Club. Members were treated to a French treasure hunt funded by the turkey ticket project at Thanksgiving. French III stu¬ dents sponsored balloon sales, sock hops, and raked leaves to raise money for their French cuisine dinner at Le Chateau and Barter Presentation. Open House was observed in May, so that students and faculty could see projects made by all French students. Pdfty-one girls, from grades 10-12, participated in this annual event sponsored by the Guidance Department. A new addition — escorts for the girls -- was introduced this year as well as a new M.C. — Mr. R. Dwight Barker. The big moment arrived when Tammy Sturgill was crowned Miss Chilhowie. Lisa Hale and Kathy Heath were chosen as first and second runners-up, respectively. ' I’he Varsity cheerleaders were chosen by cheerleaders from Milligan College, S.C.A. mem¬ bers. and teacher ratings. The eight girls selected attended a camp at Virginia Intermont Col¬ lege during July. While at camp, they received one excellent and two superior ratings. The cheerleaders began their activities during the tdotball season. The girls helped with Homecoming activities which in¬ cluded honoring the parents, a bonfire, and a pep rally on the football field. Homecoming 1974 Is A Busy Week of Activities 63 “HILLBILLY WEDDIN’ ” Is Presented The Junior Class presented a three-act comedy entitled “Hillbilly Weddin’ ” on December 12 in the C.H.S. auditorium. The fun began when Maw (Norma Canter) and Paw Belsnickle (Kevin Elswick) de¬ cided that their eldest daughters should get married. Paw uses his gun to find the necessary husbands. A lot of confusion re¬ sulted, but finally the daughters were married. The play was directed by Mrs. Mildred Clark, Miss Elizabeth Love, Larkin C. F hillips and H. C. Carter, Jr. Mike Croseclose was student director. And Parts Of Virginia On May 6, seventy-six students gathered in the school auditorium to hear devotions given by Rev. Jerry Fleanor before departing on their annual senior trip. While in D.C. students spent one evening at the Kennedy Center watching a play starring Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. On the night before their de¬ parture, they enjoyed a boat ride on the Potomac River. They held the opponents to an average of 17.4 points per match while they averaged 44.9. Four wrestlers, Mike Goodman, Ricky Blevins, Mark Cole, and Charlie Halsey, were undefeated. After capturing the Hogo- heegee District Title, the mat team advanced to the state meets where they placed fifth. Charlie Halsey, one of the three seniors on the squad, won state. He was the first C.H.S. wrestler to win state with an undefeated season record. The mat team was coached by Mr. Ron Ball, assisted by Mr. John Blevins. Track Team Captures Fourth Consecutive District Title The Warrior Track Team captured their fourth consecutive Hogoheegee District Title and placed second in Smyth County with a 16-2 record. The 36- member track team was coached by Mr. Dwight Barker and assistant coach Mr. Dickie Greer. Three school records were broken. Donnie Tilson broke the shot put record, Eddie Hayden broke the long jump and Jay Cole broke the pole vault record. Eddie Hayden was high scorer for the team with 1261 2 points, and Gary Billings received the award for the Most Dedicated Member. I Baseball And Golf Close Out ’74-’75 Sports Season The golf team, coached by Mr. H. C. Carter, and consisting of seven players, had seven first place and four second place wins. The team lost the district by 10 strokes with a score of 333. Mike Frye tied for medalist with a score of 77 on 18 holes but was defeated by one stroke in the sudden death play-off. The Warriors’ home course is the Scenic View Golf Course. Coached by Mr. Don Ratliff and Mr. Kermit G. Nelson, the baseball team bad a 6-8 record.
