Seniors Present “Up The Down Staircase” Board erasers whizzed by, seats over-turn¬ ed, students chased around the classroom, the teacher unable to get anyone’s attention— does this sound like an ordinary classroom to you? If it does, perhaps you were a member of Sylvia Barrett’s English class when the Senior Class presented “Up The Down Staircase’’ on March 28, 1974, at 8:00 p.m. in the C.H.S. auditorium. Sylvia had recently moved to New York City for her first teaching job. Her attempts to reach her rebellious students failed due to their refusals to cooperate with Sylvia. Her efforts, however, were not useless as she final¬ ly gained acceptance from her students. Mr. Jerry A. Eggers, class sponsor, directed the play. Student directors were Rita Mc¬ Ghee, Eva Blevins and Mary Lynn Ratliff. Mrs. Pansy R. Rollins was in charge of make¬ up. Pictured above are FIRST ROW: Ginger Berry, Debbie Glasco, Weaver Cole, Sharon Whitely, Mike Billings, Sam¬ my Powers, Terri Robinson, Eddie Larimer, Ruth Reasor, Debbie Doss, and Mr. Jerry Eggers, SPONSOR. SECOND ROW: Carol Childers, Jackie Berry, Zeean Harris, Karen Hollowood, Linda Walker, Sue Call, Elaine Jones, and Nila Jo Denton. THIRD ROW: Buddy Blevins, Mike McClure, John Harriger, John Edmiston, Bobby Joe Heath, Eva Buch¬ anan, Amanda DeBusk, Connie Sturgill, Betty McKee, Sherry McClure, and Mary Owens. 17
