CHS made the biggest headlines of the year during the football sea¬ son. The small Warrior team, which had astounded many from the begin¬ ning of the ’70 season by defeating team after team, marched on to take the Region C title and finally the State Group A Championship by de¬ feating the Fluvanna Flucos on a neutral field in Albemarle County on December 5, 1970. Scores of Chil- howie fans invaded Fluco territory to cheer the Warrior team on to vic¬ tory. Hundreds of others listened to the play by play account on radio and read more detailed report in local newspapers. The team arrived back in Chilhowie amid horns and sirens blowing and crowds cheering the Warrior heroes. 4
