During the school day the department also provided classroom drivers’ education. The Mathematics Department offers courses in both general and college preparatory math. Eighth graders in their math classes studied equations and had an introduction to trig func¬ tions, while freshmen not enrolled in Algebra I took general Math 9. The college preparatory courses included algebra, geometry, and trigo¬ nometry. Algebra 1 and II classes spent much time in learning to factor equations, and geo¬ metry classes worked with logarithms, geo¬ metric proofs, and the slide rule. Trig students used both new information, and information obtained from previous math classes in proving identities. Top left: Glenn McKee shows how math is the door to opportunity in many Helds.
