Administration And Staff Experience Changes TEACHER AIDE Mrs. Mary Louise Beekner Dr. Mary Ann Johnson, psychologist with the Holston Mental Health Clinic, speaks to the CHS faculty. The 1970-71 school session began under the leadership of a new principal, Mr. Cleve Comp¬ ton. A native of Tennessee, Mr. Compton had previously served as teacher and football coach at Chilhowie High School from 1956 to 1965. From the fall of 1965 until his new appointment in the spring of 1970, he served as principal of Chilhowie Elementary School. Mrs. Roberta D. Clifton, a CHS graduate, who had served as secretary at Chilhowie Ele¬ mentary School for several years, transferred to a similar position at Chilhowie High School for the 1970-71 session. Mrs. Mary Louise Beekner replaced Mrs. Ann Anderson as a teacher aide. For the first time in CHS history, the pro¬ fessional help of a psychologist. Dr. Mary Ann Johnson, was made available to the admini¬ stration and faculty. The year progressed under the supervision of the Smyth County School Board and Dr. J. Leonard Mauck, Superintendent of Schools.

Copenhaver and Mr. Dwight Barker offered individual counsel (below with Bobby Sturgill) and group guidance. The library, under the supervision of Mrs. Linda Vail, provided students with many tools of learning.
