Miss Copenhaver, Mr. St. John, Mr. Bales, Mr. Compton In addition to the football team, other areas of school life made “news” or experienced changes. The session began under the leadership of a new principal, and six new teachers were added to the teaching staff. The FFA honored Miss Mary P. Copenhaver for her guidance services, the Chilhowie Jaycees selected Mr. William St. John as Outstanding Young Edu¬ cator of the year, and Mr. Ron Bales was nominated for the County Good-Citizen Award (pic¬ tured above). Drama (above right), French III, and music were added to the curriculum. Other changes were evident as the year progressed. The Beta Club was organized, and a new group of assemblies was introduced (right). Even the appearance of the student body changed with the adoption of some of the latest fashion trends (pictured at far right). Thus 1970-71 was a year of change and NEWS.
