MATHEMATICS Mathematics courses are scheduled in order to offer students a basic knowledge of numbers as used in practical situations and to prepare students for future study in this area. Three faculty members are included in this area of study. Mr. Vince Brown instructs classes in Eighth Grade Mathematics. Miss Elizabeth Love teaches Algebra 1 and Algebra 11 courses. LANGUAGE ARTS Chilhowie High School requires five years of English. Each year is divided into one half grammar and one half literature. The faculty members composing the English department are Mrs. Champ Clark, Miss Mary Payne Copenhaver, Mrs. June M. Conner, Mrs. A. B. Farmer, Mrs. Bobby L. Puckett, Mrs. Pansy R. Rollins, and Miss Louise Snavely. One foreign language is offered in two courses, French I and II. Both of these courses are instructed by Mrs. Pansy R. Rollins. 11

PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical Education courses are offered as one half physical fitness and one hall health. Miss Nancy Little instructs both phases of Physical Education for girls at Chilhowie High. Mr. Arnold Mellinger instructs boys in both phases of Physical Education as well as instructs students in a Driver Education Course. The Driver Education course involves classroom study and actual driving experience on roads. 13
