Class Hist OPL) In September, 1946, four long years ago, ninety-six unfamiliar students entered the front door of Chilhowie High School. Why were these students entering high school? To learn the knowledge of wisdom which was to be se¬ cured in the following years. These students were unfamiliar with the way the high school system works because they had been accustomed to the one teacher method used in grammar school. Mr. C.P. Price welcomed the large group of freshmen and wished us the best of luck in high school. Our class sponsors were Miss Elizabeth Love and Miss Emma Troxel. The first year of high school was very difficult for us because we had to learn the rules and laws by which we were to proceed in the next four years to come. In September of 1947 when we returned to the halls of old C.H.S. we were starting into another year of hard school. Although we had lost several students there were still about 60 students that returned. We were under the leadership of Mrs. Carter Tyler and Mrs. Herbert Catron that year. Mr. C.P. Price was our principal, with Mr. D.L. Stanphill in the athletic department. We were honored to have a sophomore chosen as football queen. She was Bureda Little. Our Junior Year was a little easier because we were getting familiar with the ways of high school. Our new Principal was Mr. G.E. Copenhaver who had taken the place of Mr. C.P. Price. Our class president was Betty Little and our sponosrs were Miss Helen Reeves and Miss Amanda Bowman. The high¬ light of the year was our Junior and Senior Banquet and Prom. In September of 1949 there were 40 seniors who enrolled in the class. We elected as President Mary Virginia St. John and our sponsor was Mr. Galen Drewry. Our home room mothers, Mrs. M.M. Duncan and Mrs. Larry Brown, gave us a party and we all enjoyed it very much. The party was on December 27, 1949. Mr. G.W. Kiser is our coach this year. We will always remember our stay at old C.H.S. as a pleasant and inter¬ esting one. In the years to come always remember our old Alma Mater and above all to be honest and fair in the game of life.
