UUR TEACHERS qw ? UT as a home is not made of material built into its structure, neither does the school consist of brick and mortar of which its walls are made. A very vital portion of the school consists of the men and women that constitute .iq N, 1' 'x its faculty. Upon the lives of the children of the community they are to leave the imprint of their influence, whether it be good or bad. Their responsibility is very greatg their virtues are often unsung. To the group that consti- tutes the faculty of Childress High School for the year 1928-1929 we desire to give our praise. We believe that honor should be given to whom honor is due. In the great World War the soldiers on the front, who were subjected to the terrors of flying bullets, bursting shells, and the groans of their wounded and dying comrades, received little of the praise of men. They were not heralded among the great heroes of the war. Yet their courage and sacrifices are the things over which the Prussian Guard could not trample. They pursued the even tenor of their way, and many of them Hbloomed to blush unseen and left their sacrificial bodies to hallow the poppy-covered fields of France. The officers of War, who had a great work to perfoml, have received a double portion of praise, and the deeds of the private soldier are left practically unobserved except in the total of their accomplishments. So it is with a great host of people who are waging the conflict against the illiteracy of the country. The people of the community have much to say about superin- tendents, principals, and supervisors, Whose work is very important when properly accomplished. But the teacher who labors and toils, who bears the brunt of the whole affair, goes unsung and scarcely noticed in the community. It often becomes necessary for him to join some civic organization in order that he may form the acquaintance of the people with whom he labors. Lest ye forget, we are presenting on the following pages the physical likenesses of those in Childress High School who have labored without complaint. Yes, they have borne the burden in the heat of the day. They will likely fail to receive the honor and praise that is rightfully theirs, for: - Full many a gem of purest ray serene, The dark unfathomed eaves of ocean bear: Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, And 'waste its sweetness on the desert air. ' No, the lives of these will not be wasted. They will be relived in the generation of those whose lives they have moulded and fashioned. The coming years will show the usefulness of the principles they have taught and the examples they have set. The student body joins the staff in unrelenting praise of our faculty. In after years they will peruse these following pages with recollections of many kind consulta- tions and much friendly advice. Then shall we have appreciation far beyond that we are able to express.
