xg, 'f - ' 1 OUR SCHUUL '5 T LONG with the general progress in the nation, the school business has kept lf' A 1?-1 . . limgrl pace with the general forward movement. This has been true of every phase of the school work. The little red school house has served its noble place 'W' in human affairs and has given Way to modern and well-equipped buildings M 54, all over the nation. These modern buildings have been built at great sacrifice t5Qi1i9l on the part of the tax payers of the country, but in general the people feel repaid for all this expenditure. There is no progressive community that would be willing to go back to the old method of school house building. N' On the following pages we are glad to present for this generation and following generations a view of one of these modern school buildings. This structure was pre- sented to the children of this community by the tax payers of the Childress Independ- ent School District at a cost of 5BI50,000. The building stands as a monument to the financial sacrifices of the people of this school district. They are to be paid in future citizens for this same community. Those who are directly interested in the output of this annual hope that they may be repaid ten-fold. The Childress High School is a two story brick building containing twenty-tW0 class rooms, a library, a book room for state adopted text books, a reception room, two offices, two study halls, an auditorium that will seat 804 people, and a gymnasium second to none in West Texas. Connected with this gym are separate dressing rooms equipped with cold and hot showers for both boys and girls. The school building is modern throughout, and the entire citizenship is very proud of it. lt is hoped that there will be such progress in this community that within a few years this building will not be the pride of schoolhouse structure but that others will be built that surpass it in beauty and splendor. But you who may enjoy a better building than ours may know that this one has served well its day and generation and has made proud the hearts of the hundreds of boys and girls that have paraded its halls. On the following pages will be found some views of this physical portion of our high school. The first page is a section of the front of the building, which shows a portion of the splendid architecture in the building. The next page contains views of our commercial and mechanical departments respectively in which our pupils learn to ply a trade. In the commercial department there are one hundrd and forty boys and girls enrolled for the current year. The mechanical drawing department has an enroll- ment of sixty boys. The next page contains pictures of the home economics department and the chemistry class. In the home economics class the girls are making splendid headway in learning to cook for two. Our chemistry department has one of the best equipped high school laboratories in the state, and the work in that department is par excellent. On the last page of this group of pictures will be found the picture of the annual staff and the auditorium. The annual staff bears responsibility for this year's book. They have labored well. The auditorium is equipped with 804 nice opera chairs, a stage that opens upon our large gymnasium, and a complexity of fine scenery that lends make-up to the setting of any operatic performances the school cares to put on. These views are given with the hope that in years to come they may recall fond memories of the things that have taken place in these various places and that you may receive comfort from them at the end of your future days of labor.
