SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Once upon a trme on a brtght day rn September mne frrghtened httle boys and glrls k1SS6Cl therr mothers good bye and walked away mto a new l1fe Martha Norr1s Doyle Gambrell Glenn McCaffrey Barbara K1ICh6l'lS Nada Reeves Evelma L1ghtsey Polly Holl1day Dot Allen Mary Lou Hornsby All these were flrst graders at Chrldersburg School After a few years of learmng the three R s excmng thmgs began to happen By the begm mng of the f1fth grade the class had ptcked up Dot Commander Chester Carroll .Toe Bassett Donald Barnett Eltzabeth Johnson Jake Allen Dorrs F anrun Gerald Cantrell James Dobbs V1rg1n1a Merherg and Adeha Bow11ng And th1s year was a wonderful one at C H S for we had our very f1rst football team Then the next year a band was added and then came our f1rst downtown parade! Gee, how proud we were of our Alma Mater Agatn we D1Ck6Cl up some new members to our class J ohnn1e Sue Owmgs Wade Burleson Larry Donahoo and B1lly Merrtll Oh days of days! In 1948 we entered .Tumor Hrgh School Agarn we were frlghtened tn dxvtduals for thts was very new to us changtng classes new teachers and II seemed we lost our selves m the blendmg process Many were added to our class th1s year Chr1st1e Corbett Barbara Bushey Robert Cole Carloyn Sanford Shrrley Butts, and Kat1e Harms Thmgs began to happen fast A new athlettc fxeld had been added and we could choose our own subjects leavmg out all the thmgs wed1dn t hkef and teachers we d1dn t lrkelj Some wonder ful people had entered our group Sh1rley Graves Harry Baker Gall Isbell Kay Cleckler Maxtne Bllls Frances Bennett Clara Lawler Barbara Wallenfang Brlly Wakefleld Joel Garrls Joan Mauldln Charlotte Rester and BObb1C Mxms The tenth grade was slow and uneventful But the begmmng of the next one was momentous our JUNIOR YEAR and the banquet prom the event of events! We had to make money heaps of lt select a theme and w1th DANCING UNDER THE STARS our Jumor year came to a lovely chmax Durmg th1s year Joan Berryman and Kathleen Golden became members of our class Kathleen reJo1ned us after movtng away for a whrle September 1954 senxors at lastl What a feehng nothmg l1ke1tl Some new add1t1ons to our class thxs year were Robert Rutherford and Cynthta Prtce from out of state Tom Jeff Coleman Wayne Wxllts and Ray Cooper who were left so gracxously by the class of 54 fhen there were Phoebe Fuller and Betty Carroll who came up from the tenth grade And thts was our year!
