' Traces of tradition , of buddies and rat weed, jf races of bard work and donors weCC earned races of visits, of parents and friends J[races of May D ay,of graduation, and tde year's end, 89 Orientation Orientation week, under the leadership of Robin Faircloth and Debbie Poindexter (be- low), provided new students with information concerning Queens' policies. It was a combina- tion of placement tests, meetings with faculty advisors, getting to know roommates, skits and sunbathing at Lake Norman. And it all started with a friendly smile from a helpful buddy as you unpacked and headed toward Albright dorm. Kathy T. and Mary Kate Belk perform in a freshman skit. Heidi Edidin learns fast — down with Davidson co-eds! 91 Senior Recognition Day Each fall the Seniors are officially recognized and honored during Senior Recognition Day. The speaker, Sue Little, chosen by the Senior Class, of- fered advice to relish this last year and challenged the Seniors to take ad- vantage of every opportunity. Thus renewed, tired and worn out Seniors greet their last year at Queens with anticipation and enthusiasm. i i 93 1 Co Creeks! The five sororities greeted the Rushees with a warm welcome and entertained them through skits and songs. New friendships quickly formed and everyone experienced a few tearful moments with the culmina- tion of the weekend and the arrival of final pledging. 95 Marion Cook and Debbie Arledge and their parents enjoy the Saturday picnic. Parent's Weekend Decorated dorms, clean rooms and a weekend full of festivities awaited parents upon their arrival at Queens. The agenda included a Halloween party, and introductions to professors followed by a picnic. Stunt Night Saturday night high- lighted the weekend. 97 They still make legs like they used to. I I could have danced all night. Susan Wood, Karen Terrana, Libby McNeill and Kathy Jennings entertain during intermission. Hysteria hits Queens College with Michelle Manire and Elizabeth Pearce as Stunt Night Co-chairmen. A Davidson man needs no introduction. Stunt Night Take a few classes and give them a theme. Now tell them to prepare a skit that is a variation on that theme and watch what can happen. The end result of all this work is Queens College Stunt Night held during Parent's Weekend. Toot- Toot Twenties Good-bye and What Does Mom Know? are a couple of the skits that were performed, but it was the Juniors with They Don't Make Monsters Like They Used To that stole the show and all the prizes. Diane, you've got the cutest, little baby face. i i na 99 Black Friday Auction Exotic dinners, exciting trips and exquisite gifts are among many of the items sought after by intent bidders at the Black Friday Auction. The Day Student Association sponsors this gala affair with the help of administrators and professors who contribute the varied selec- tion. In a true hillbilly style. Dr. Crosthwaite and Dr. Oates (right) auctioned with a finesse that drew many high bids. Preceding the auction was a Cow Chow provided by the Resident Student Council. Mary Ann Mee and Susi McCarter revive a medieval dance. Boar's Head The annual Boar's Head Dinner is one of many fine Queens College traditions at Christmastime. It marks the celebration of an occasion that happened over 600 years ago at Queens College at Oxford, but Queens College at Charlotte has their own version; a most impressive one at that. Formal dress, good food, entertain- ment, and of course the presentation of the Boar's Head are an important part of the festive dinner which is long re- membered by all who share in it Jayne Blue proclaims the old English traditions as Libby Jones and Karen Betsy McAulay and Nancy Sorrells herald Terrana present the Boar's Head. the coming of the Boar's Head. i i Moravian Love Feast The Moravian Love Feast is another Christmas tradition at Queens. It is a time of sharing with a joyous but serious tone. Held in Belk Chapel, this celebration with coffee, buns, candle lights and Christmas carols can be truly described as a feast of love. The burning of the Yule Log is a happy, but chilly Christmas tradition. A fire is lit, the legend is read, wishes are made with holly sprigs, and the Yule Log is placed on the fire. Then the air is filled with the sounds of voices raised in song, and each student experiences an inner feeling of warmth, joy and love as she shares a fine part of Christmas at 'ole QC. It may be an intellectually challenging affair such as a lecture delivered by some out- standing specialist in his field, or it may be physically challenging such as an all-day hike at Linville Falls. Membership is not reserved to only those who have chosen Biology as a major, but is open to any student who would be interested in participating by attending lectures and seminars concerning some phase of biology, either on our own campus or at other colleges and universities; or, for instance, in serving as ushers for the Audubon Society films shown here on campus. Membership in this lively group also entitles one to join in on Dr. Fehon's Annual Reading Day Spaghetti Din- ner and affords students the privilege of relaxing in the new lounge opened in the Walker Science Building. 148 President's Board Members: seated — Kathy Haley, Sallie Coker, Genia Weinberg, Daphne Eubank; top — Betsy Hardy, Rita Alvarez, Betsy McAulay, Frances Doe, Phyllis Mabry, Susan Ellsworth, Melanie Snow. This opera is the story of Jennie Parsons who is in love with Brack Weaver. Her mother wishes her to marry Thomas Boucher, a man of better means and standing. Jennie's mother forbids Jennie to attend a party with Brack and urges her to go with Boucher instead. When Jennie does show up with Brack, Brack and Boucher get into a fight. Boucher is killed and Brack is sentenced to die by hanging. It is a tragic tale of love and conflict that is excellently por- trayed by the cast which includes Libby McNeill, Kathy Jennings, Alvin Johnson and Darrell Mitchell. The story is by Kurt Weill. 5 ! 150 L'Angiais Tel Qu'on Le Parle Very interesting, but this situation is most strange is it not? Deux chambres, mais pourquoi? My dear julien, we've got to stop meet- ing like this. You know my mother has the nose of a bloodhound. Picture a hotel in the heart of France, the country of love. Now add a rebellious young couple, determined to be married, to check into that hotel. For a bit of spice, include the girl's mother, an overprotective soul who is in opposition to the marriage. Enter now the interpreter, who is unable to speak any language besides French, and the police. Put all of these ingredients together and the end product projects the misadventures of the characters of the Hotel de Cologe in the comedy hit L'Angiais Tel Qu'on Le Parle. 151 Student Legislature 7 The members of North Caro- lina Student Legislature are individuals concerned about the democratic process and the workings of our government.
