The first few days are filled with meetings, maps, diagrams, descriptions and instructions. Another world is revealed to new and eager eyes amidst a mass of trunks and boxes. Senior Recognition Day Only once is a student a senior. And Senior Recognition Day recognizes her achievements of long hours spent over books and lab tables. Dr. Judith Gatlin encourages the Seniors in her address to strive for everything and nothing less. It is now a matter of time to see if the Seniors can fulfill this challenge. 54 55 Parent's Weekend At Queens, parent’s weekend is a time for parents to meet the infamous faculty that their daughters have told them so much about. For the students, it is a time to pull their dresses out of moth balls or at least wear a clean pair of jeans to impress Mom and Dad. 56 Stunt Night Stunt night is one of the highlights of parent’s weekend. Queens ladies have the opportunity to show their parents and the faculty their creative talents. The results of the competition decide on congratulations to the sophomores and a tough luck message to the seniors. 58 Black Friday Auction What a marvellous combination-Drs. Tyson and Hadley auctioning off goodies. The bidding runs higher and higher for that delicious dinner prepared by a favorite faculty member. 60 Moravian Love Feast Part of the Christmas spirit at Queens is promoted by the Moravian Love Feast. Buns and coffee are served to the student body during the service. Candles are lit and with their lighting the true Christmas spirit glows in everyone’s face. Boar's Head One of the traditions at Queens is the annual Boar's Head Dinner at Christmas. It is one of the few times that one can see the entire student body in dresses. Let feasting and merriment reign throughout the Hall. 62 Yule Log Sprigs of holly are thrown into the fire of the yule log, and as they are thrown, every student makes a wish. Perhaps the wish is for a special event or person. But no matter the particular, the universal wish is the same—a very happy new year. 63 I Symposium Moira Gomez-Sophomore Co-Chairman, Carolyn Thomas-Chairman, Anne Joughin, Jane Altman-Junior Co-Chairmen. Canon The 1974 dedication of the Coronet recognizes a person who combines an awareness of the college’s academic and administrative needs with an awareness of the students’ personal development as a whole and as individuals. Well-known to all of he students and the faculty, this person is a generous, candid, frank and warm human being. He has time for anyone. He is a confidante, a friend, or a colleague. In the opinion of the Seniors he is on top of the world. The 1974 Coronet is dedicated by the Senior Class to Dean Canon in appreciation for the time and effort he has contributed to our four years of undergraduate education. 76 77 Betsy Mapp Fredi Fulmer Penny Camp Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities Christie Taylor Jane Goodman 78 Linda Rabb Lynn Nickell Barbara Johnson Betty Skardon Carolyn Thomas Orb and Sceptre Vallkyrie Sharon Pearce, Elizabeth Pearce—Co-Presidents.
