Her presence is a welcome but disturbing force on the Queens campus. She has had the audacity to make us think, to make us doubt that which we had believed indubitable, and to ask those questions about ourselves which we do not like to answer. Yet, she has never permitted us to doubt without inspiring us to believe. She has never led us to question without helping us to recognize the right answers. Inside the classroom and out, her presence on the Queens campus has had a significant and positive influence. She joined the faculty just three short years ago. Within days, however, we all recognized the new Bible teacher. Miss Carson, by her pleated skirts and villager blouses, her familiar weejuns, and her cheerful smile. Prior to com- ing to Queens, Mary Faith Carson was graduated from Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and received graduate degrees from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education and Union rheological Seminary in Richmond. Her work experience included being director of Christian Education in Greenville, South Caro- lina, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. During her first year at Queens, Miss Carson was seen most frequently in the library studying and preparing for classes. Her sense of respon- sibility to us, her students, and her dedication to teaching are reflected in every classroom lec- ture and discussion. Students in her classes strive to be prepared for her inevitable question, What are the issues and implications involved?” One student has remarked, We are aware that Miss Carson studies, thinks, and questions with us. As a result, her Classes are exciting experiences for everyone involved. Her enthusiasm is con- tagious, even at 8 o’clock in the morning.” 'All Face, as Miss Carson is affectionately called by her nieces, has been as valuable to Queens outside of class as she has been in the classroom. She possesses a rare talent of being able to be a good friend to students without losing her identity as a teacher. Anyone wishing to see her after class will most likely find her at any hour in her office, munching an apple and drinking coffee brought from home. She is never too busy to converse freely, simply, and honestly. This year both the senior class and the Queens Christian Association have had the benefit of her wisdom, counsel, and sharp wit as their sponsor. At the invitation of the senior class. Miss Carson delivered the Senior Recognition Day address in September. Who, if any, can forget or forgive her for making us ask of Polly Wil- liams and of ourselves, Is this then enough?” As she leaves to become the first woman candi- date for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in religion at Princeton rheological Seminary, she answers this disturbing question for us all. m Page Fifteen

Dedication TO MARY FAITH CARSON For her assistance in helping us to find ourselves as individuals and then to lose ourselves in ideas and truths more enduring and significant than we, the students of Queens College dedicate the 1964 Coronet.
