They soon found out that what Linda had said about “we want you to know” was true. This was shown by all the hard work that went into bringing the scholarship, sorority sing, and basketball trophies back to the house. A X O jumps to Seconc Id cice in Sc liotcu'sh With anticipation and a lot of new ideas, the Alpha Chi’s husilv prepared for Rush Week. W e were pleased w hen our decorations for the Japanese part} received the approval of two voung Japanese boys. W hen rush wras over we began a year of fun and ac- tivity. The pledges' Waffle Breakfast had a terrific turn- out lor a rainy Sundax morning. Dot and lean proved their enthusiasm as they sat on the chapter room floor all morning making waffles! I he actives showed the pledges how to be sophisticated. Mary Lib provided the atmosphere by blowing Lawrence W’elk-type bubbles. ITie champagne (better known as ginger ale( was delicious, and the talent ... I lelen Pearl Bailex’ Cranford and Joyce-with her magnificent voice- Wi ngate made a contrast—to say the least! Before we knew it we were standing on the stage in Xinniss competing for the Sororitx Sing trophy. We bare ly missed, but we were delighted to receive the award for second place. Our sneakv pledges confessed at the Christmas part} that the} were the Secret Sweeties” who had been doing nice things and leaving surprises for us. And then there was the slumber party when Miss At- kins slid around all night and Bero spent the night in the powder room placing ‘ Here’s to the Health of C olonel Puff!” We showed that there was more to the year than just partying w hen we tied for second place in the scholarship competition between sororities. In April we served as hostesses for the District IV Con vention of Alpha Chi Omega; this kept us all busv with many details to be worked out. Graduation and good-byes were here before we knew it, and we looked forward to next year with the same anticipation and some more new ideas. Flora McNair, Treasurer; Linda Thompson, Cor- “SOME . . . castle!” responding Secretary; Carol Cochran, Vice-President, Carol Ann Speake, Recording Secretary. AA Instead of spending money for their annual project, the pledges helped out in the administrative offices on campus, so their gilt to the actives was over $200 for the rug fund. To add to this, “Operation Moonshine’ was set up with squads selling food in the dorms on Sun- day nights and on the beaches’ over the weekends. 11 Jane hadn’t sprained her ankle at the slumber party and Mary hadn’t fallen while practicing for the Olympics, it would have been a perfect year. If Alice hadn't said, “You’re all so neat!' right after pledging, if Claudia hadn’t fallen off her chair at the Initiation Banquet, if Miss A. hadn’t scooted in the scooter contest at Davidson, and if Sue hadn’t suggested selling the house to pay for itself, the year wouldn’t have been half as much fun. , tome t Jl 2b Pi Claudia Johnson inda Pegram 3a: Stell Merry Kilner Phoebe Pierce Caroline Stiles Rella Lancaster Beth Rivers Linda Thompson Sue Lane Priscilla Robertson Ann Vandiver Alice Methlessel Virginia Rose Phy llis YVhitenack Joyce McCubbin Sue Ross Martha Woods Ann McGrath Li .
