The faculty advisors guide the stu dents acadcmicalK while the student advisors help them to adjust socially. I Jane Agsten President of Queens Christian Association I he Queens Christian Association is an all-inclusive student and faculty organization. Its over-all purpose is to create a Christian community on the campus and to strengthen the principles of the Christian faith so that they may become vital and meaningful to each person. 1 he association seeks to inspire students toward the development of a mature Christian faith and to provide guidance for this endeavor, to explore possibilities for communicating the Christian faith, to experience Chris- tian fellowship, and to relate all areas of campus life to the Christian faith. In an attempt to realize the over-all purpose, the cabi- net of the association is responsible for planning all campus activities such as vespers, chapel, prayer meet- ings, Christian Re-Emphasis Week, retreats, and overseas work camp projects. Our first project as a class is the presentation of the program for Christmas Vespers which follows the traditional and colorful Boars Head Dinner. Through an interesting retreat at Camp Stewart, the Christian Association introduces itself to us on our first Sunday at Queens. One of the most outstanding weeks on the campus is Christian Re-Emphasis Week. This year we heard Dr. B. Frank Hall from Wilmington, C., speak on “Man’s Dilemma—God's Solution.' 1 The Recreation Association I he Recreation Association is another all-inclu- sive student body organization which contributes to all phases of the recreational life of each individual. Rage Forty-one Alice Manning President of Panhellenic Council sororities a d d e The Panhellenic Council serves as the coordinator among the six sororities on campus. 1 he primary activity of this council was rush week. Held earlier than usual, rush netted 108 pledges. A workshop following this period was held to evaluate the rush practices. I he Alpha Delta Pi’s won the first prize and the Chi Omegas second prize during the annual sorority sing held in December. Something new was added this year, Panhellenic Council in connection with Ivey’s sponsored a fashion show using sorori t girls as models. Initiation and banquets were the first week in March. I he Panhellenic dance weekend, which included an in formal dance, a concert, and a formal dance, followed during the second week in March. Out of the gym run the new pledges, their bids in their hands. The fashion show was the first of its kind at Queens. Sorority girls were the models. alpha chi omega Helen Cranford President, Alpha Chi Omega The Alpha Chi’s second year on campus was a very busy one. No sooner had the members arrived than they began making Japanese favors, lanterns, and brightly colored kimonos. All the work was well worth the effort when fourteen pledges donned ribbons of scarlet and olive green at the end of rush. Sorority life settled down until time for Sorority Sing when all of us sang until we were hoarse. I he semester ended much too soon and we lost two members—Dot to graduation and Kakie to Ge- neva. Second semester brought initiation and shiny new lyres for new members. Parties and “feeds’’ filled the days until graduation when we lost three. The enthusiasm of the blue and white castle was con- tagious, for twenty-two new “little sisters” soon gave an added sparkle to the new lodge. With their help, the Sorority Sing cup took its place once again on the black trophy case next to the national scholarship award which the president brought home from convention in Canada during the summer. A badly needed kitchen shower served as the Christmas party this year and also supplied all of the needed utensils and appliances. Caroling in the neighborhood added the final touch to the holiday spirit. Second semester again came and went too soon ending the college life of thirteen of our members. Hard work was worth while when sixteen rushees decided to pledge. Wednesday night open house, Sunday suppers, pledge parties became a part of our year. Sorority Sing and the pledges’ Christmas dinner added to the season. Initiation made sisters out of pledges. And then came the Panhellenic weekend which was such a success. I he semester whizzed by with only May Day and an Alpha Gam May Queen slowing things down a bit. Graduation for several of the group dampened the spirits of the Alpha Gam’s, but the trip to Ocean Drive revived everyone immediately. Page Fifty seven WE WERE bewildered, green freshmen two years ago, afraid to speak in a group of upperclassmen, afraid not to be well-pre- pared for classes, afraid of being left out and forgotten. We spent one year like this, slowly gaining the confidence necessary for sophomores. WE WERE confident last year, for there were ones under us who thought we were the last word. We knew what to w'ear wEen, how' much to study for each professor, wEich fraternity to date in, how' to drop the w'ords “Germans, Mid-Winters, June Week.” We w'ere sure that our social life w'as the most important part of life. WE ARE now' juniors and showing the intro- spection which hits and dives deeply into the minds of us who are deciding—deciding on our major, deciding on the most im- portant values in life, deciding whether or not to listen in chapel, whether or not to go the extra mile in studies. We think, doubt, rationalize, then think again. But through it all wre at last reach a realization of life. WE ARE seniors realizing for the first time that all life is learning. We, on the staff, have tried to show in pictures the development of a girl through her four years at Queens. The activities are placed under the classes according to the importance we felt they played during that year of our life here. I he annual is more informal than usual in the hope that each pose will remind you in years to come of something definite in your college life. We owe much of the credit of this annual to Marilyn MacOueen who so uncomplainingly scheduled and rescheduled, took and retook the majority of pictures. Without her and her imagination we would have had nothing. Each staff member, however, is vital to the completion of a yearbook. The weight of the entire book falls on the editor who must see that everything is done. 1 he business manager must see to the money angle while the advertising manager must get ads. Each editor is responsible for her section. Without the encouragement of Mr. Hadley and Miss Miscally, the entire project would probably fall apart. Nancy Ingram, left, is the business manager. A WREATH OF CLOVER BLOSSOMS Long ago, a child, thinking it wonderful to make a pretty thing, wove a wreath of clover blossoms from the sunny fields of summer. NUANCES on a Theme by Pound 1 hank you, whatever comes. Because what you have given me Will last forever. For some, love is theirs for a lifetime To deepen, broaden, mature, 1 o grow ever richer and fuller With the flow of time. For others, the glory of love is theirs For only a minute—a second— Before the dark curtain is drawn And everything is lost. The moments I have shared your love Have been more than most wondrous. 1 he radiance of that love, in this short time, Has illuminated my life And given meaning Where once there was none. This love has tinged with brilliant hues The bleakest shadows of my world, The dark corners of my heart. It has revealed new boundless dimensions, Opened new doors, Shown me new paths, Incited me to strive for nobler, higher goals. All this your love has done, and more: You have thus enriched my life. So thank vou, whatever comes. I will lose you, I know; but that gained From knowing you, loving you Will never be lost. I wish I had one now to give to you— to fling over your head as a token— to say the word I’ve never spoken. I hat child still lives behind the mask I wear; she loved you then, not knowing love, and loves you now, aware of all it means. —Sarah Ann Jennette ’62 IMMOBILITY Form shapes Now apes Patterns of the neverending All blur Never stir From the finish to beginning Life lies Times tries To shove the fortresses of space All fails Death veils The horror of a changeless face. —Rosallen Spencer ’62 —Amelia Alexander ’60 Page 0 ie Hundred Ten SEAWEED HARPS Overhead 1 saw the blowing clouds nd 1 heard the sound of birds, And fish in the sea played on seaweed harps As the swam h the sinking ship. W e heard sounds never heard before the grasshopper’s rustling music the eerie mating call of the geese as they circled above, making grey white arcs against the skv. We wandered down beside the w'ater and watched the mud-crabs draw strange patterns, as they moved in accord with the rustling weed-grasses. We tried to read their message but the waters lapped the sands smooth. It will be summer always I thought but summer passed and it was cold.
