■ completed in September of 1958; at the same time, the Student Union Building was resur- faced with brick and officially named the Laura Tillett Building. Construction of a new residence hall for upperclassmen with ample space and facilities for the enlarged enrollment also began in 1958. Completion of the new Irwin-McKay Infirmary in January, 1959, permitted the razing of the old infirmary in order to begin construc- tion of the new library, additional books for which are being purchased with an anonymous gift of fifty thousand dollars. In the area of administration Dr. Curtis W. R. Larson, formerly of Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio, joined the college community as Dean of the College. New in the administrative organiza- tion is the position of Provost which has been filled by Mr. Thomas A. Keenan. Leaving her former position as head of the Department of Art, Mrs. Ann S. Cebhardt became the new Dean of Students. Student Government has also shared in the transition with the development of the merit system for boarding students and the honor system of chapel attendance. These changes in the physical plan, adminis- tration, and student government are only the first signs of the spirit of progress that now characterizes the college. The following pages will illustrate both the changes that have taken place and the spirit that will spark the future.
