In August 1893; while Queens College was still Charlotte Female Institute, the Presbyterian Female y Seminary was organized in Green- ville; South Carolina; but in 1898 the College was reorganized by Dr. S. R. Preston, taking the name of Chicora College for Young Ladies. In 1890 a private company established the Presbyterian College for Women in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1915 this College for Women and Chicora College consolidated to become Chi- cora College for Women. In 1930 Chicora College merged with Queens College to become Queens-Chieora College. We, the Staff, hope that in setting forth these facts we may conjure up fond mem- ories of the past and bring together these former educational efforts to be concentrated through unity of pur- pose and centered in Queens-Chieora College.

IN this the twenty-fourth volume of the Edelweiss we have en- deavored to present and commem- orate the history of Queens College during its seventy-three years of ex- istence and that of Chicora College during its twenty-five years of ex- istence, and likewise to forward the perpetration of the merger of these two institutions into Queens-Chicora College. These two colleges have passed through many dear and interesting years of transition before joining hands to become one. About the year 1766 there was an Academy named Queens Museum or College. In 1857 there was a college called Charlotte Female Institute. In 1901 the college’s name changed to Pres- byterian College for Women. In 1912 the institution moved from College Street to Myers Park and again re- sumed its original name of Queens College.
