Sittard began his career as music director for Chicopee Comprehensive High School. Throughout these sixteen years, he has devoted an immense amount of time, patience, and energy to help mold his students to grow musically, as well as morally. Each individual who is fortunate enough to come in contact with Mr. Sittard, either through band, chorus, or in any other capacity, knows what it is to have more than a student teacher relationship. He is a figure of respect and authority: consequently, he always has an open ear and or a comforting word of advice. With the guidance of a phenominal director, the C.C.H.S. band, representing our high school, has achieved such high honors as; Massachusetts Band of the Year; a participator in the Bicentennial ts Celebration in Allentown, Pennsylvania: an accumulation of trophies in Toronto, Canada; a succession of first place honors in the Quincy Christmas Parade, the Fall Foliage Parade, the Heritage Music Festival, the Salute to Israel Parade in New York City, and the Miss America Pagent Parade in Atlanta City, New Jersey. In closing, we would like to thank Mr. Sittard for providing our school, not only with a prestigious name, but also with entertainment and spirit which create a unified atmosphere in conjunction with school functions and activities. On behalf of the entire student body, the yearbook staff takes great pride and pleasure in dedicating Memini ’83 to Mr. William E. Sittard. • r WILLIAM E. SITTARD BAND DIRECTOR CHICOPEE COMP Far from the crowd I will pick my way, apart from society, for I must rest and pause awhile and find a trail for me. So push and climb on your noisy way. I choose a different goal; to nestle in my quiet place and grow within my soul. l; 1 • • ' ■■■;% Tomorrow is a dream that leads me onward . . . Tomorrow is a path I have yet to choose, it is a chance I have yet to take, a friend I have yet to make. It is all the talent I have yet to use. Tomorrow is a dream that leads me onward, always just a step ahead of me It is the joy I have yet to know, the love I have yet to show. For it is the person I have yet to be. These skills will enable you to earn a living immediately upon graduating or in the future after you have had additional training and or experience. All these skills are for naught if you have not acquired a wholesome attitude toward life. This means you will have to decide what goals are important to you and what sacrifices you are willing to make in order to achieve those goals. Nothing in life is achieved without some sacrifices. When establishing your goals you must bear in mind how these goals will affect your relationship with your spouse, family, friends, neighbors, community, etc. You must think of others. Independece is a virtue: indiffer- ence is a sin. U)iltLcL William Coscore, Superintendent of Schools Herbert Curry Asst. Superintenant Carolyn Fitzgerald Administrative Assistant I wish to express my congratulations to the graduating class of 1983. Although you were faced with many societal obstructions and disruptions, you, as a group, placed educa- tion values as one of your top priorities. You met the chal- lenges, and you succeeded in achieving your first important goal. As educators, it was our educational interest to teach you how to recognize and to assess value conflicts and how to tolerate diverse values that exist in a pluralistic society. Your secondary school education should serve as a con- tributory step to your future endeavors. You will have to devote more time and more effort to discipline yourselves to seek newer and more difficult educa- tional growth. This includes the academics as well as the vocational revolution which is changing so dramatically. Your decisions will be more pronounced and more selec- tive if you are to gain the benefits of our new technological society. You are the future and the results will be yours. Graduates, you should continue your search for more hu- manistic goals which will allow people to be more tolerant of each other and to restore peace and respect to all the nations of all the world. Mitchell Kuzdzal Principal Alfred Pinciak Asst. Principal Douglas Gray Vocational Director Julie Leonard Vice Principal Clyde McClelland Placement Coordinator 97 GUIDANCE 1 am very honored for having the opportunity to ex- tend my congratulations to the class of 1983. I hope that the education and experiences you received at Chicopee Comprehensive High School will guide you to your success in the future. May God bless you all. Dionysius Dulchinos Leo? rt. Lent He d Wallace A. Starkey Guidance Secretary John Michonski George DeFlorio Charles Tomaszewski Arthur Pepin Ruth Geanacopolous ENGLISH 100 All English classes at Comprehensive High School are basically reading and writing. In addition, all classroom teachers emphasize effective oral communication, in- cluding listening, and some basic skills in audio-visual methods. The basic area requirements are primarily writing courses, for the purpose of providing the basic con- cepts of sentence structure and the paragraph, and of providing application immediately after high school of the communication skills necessary for particular goals, e.g. business, industry, college, etc. In addition, in all subject area requirements, at least one day a week is devoted to developmental skills in reading. The electives, although somewhat limited, are again primarily reading and writing. Those available electives are especially successful because they permit students to elect areas of their interest, consequently increasing motivation. The Comprehensive English Department has been very pleased with its writing program. Teachers, in other fields, have confirmed the fact that Comp, students, in general, are writing much more effectively. Furthermore, we are concentrating on providing more reading exper- iences in the English classroom. But most of all, it is through the efforts of an exper- ienced English faculty, that we are able each year to measure more and more success in not only our college board scores, but our career placement programs. ... Emphasis is focused on the teaching of a specific language and on the culture from which it is derived. We have tried, these past four years, to contri- bute to each student’s total growth by reducing his monocultural orientation by active, pleasurable partici- pation in a different culture pattern. With this background we are confident that the “Class of 83’’ will successfully meet and overcome any and all life’s challenges. “Bonne Chance’’ to all. Mr, Paul A,. Le Beau Department Head Elba Broduer Neil Marlell Ann Blodgett SOCIAL STUDIES Social Studies is one of the unique subject areas of a high school curriculum. Concerned with facts, the de- partment uses them for background in developing ideas and values. When one values something, he or she should work at trying to attain it. The Social Studies Department attempts to assess these values with the students and to spur on that quest, developing student minds to not only seek worthwhile values, but also to live up to them. If we succeed, then we feel we have set students in the right direction to face the enormous problems they will encounter in life. John H. The Mathematics Department is primar- ily concerned with providing for each student the oppor- tunity to develop to the full extent of his mathematical abilities. This is accomplished through the broad spec- trum of courses offered by the department for all levels of ability from the fundamentals of arithmetic oper- ations up through the theory and structure behind the more advanced principles of mathematics. The intent of the department is twofold: that students leaving CCHS upon graduation will be well prepared for whatever their chosen endeavor might be and that stu- dents will be successful in that endeavor. We hope we have provided the tools with which you might accom- plish your goals and wish you well in that effort. (luu Christine L. This has permitted those of you who wanted to learn a more than ample opportunity to do so. The Science Depart- ment congratulates the Class of 1983 for its successes during its four years’ attendance at CCHS, and it ex- tends its best wishes to all of the graduates for contin- ued success in any and all future individual endeavors. To go along with this modern technology, a solid understanding of accounting and recordkeeping is also desirable especially for the col- lege bound student. You have gained considerable knowledge at C.C.H.S. in a wide variety of disciplines. But education is a con- tinuing process without which you will be unable to enter the highly competitive world of work. The era that we live in demands that you prepare yourself to meet the great challenge of high technology with knowledge and sklls. In the coming decades, as companies forge ahead with computerized manufacturing, the factory floor will take on “Star Wars” overtones with batteries of robots- the so-called “steel workers” of the assembly line. High technology means computers, electronics, robotizatlon. Be prepared to meet the challenge of this wave of the future in either a professional capacity by seeking more knowledge in further education or to expand upon the skills you have acquired in your secondary education. I wish you all good health and happiness for the rest of your days. c ..r ' Dou;l- ' °s Gray Vocational Director Stephen Buczko Viola Vaz Edward Stefanowicz Alexander Skrobacki Lee Perez Dana Cutter Anthony Petrucelli Francis Wajda Joseph Zawada 116 Leopold Stokowski Kenneth Syriac Wallace Przybycien Chester Bobala Ernest Dwyer Bruce Davidson John Camerota Harry Thiebault Arthur Augusto John Murray Earl Ingham Philip Gassnola Robert Badone SPECIAL EDUCATION Edward Scagel Wendy O ' Rourke Joseph Natale John Saccavino Joseph NietupskI Moonyean Field Lynne Georgeopolus Barbara Katz Gail Fishman Aline Fitz-Gibbon — i Marguerite O’Malley Rosemary Regan 118 Missing: Carolyn Korzon NURSES Nanina Ziolkowski, Maureen Menard CAFETERIA Anita Peloquin, Nancy Renkowic, Loretta LaBarre, Pauline Colombe, Stella Kokoszka, Velma Cook, Helen Dyiekan, Doris Ward, Shirley Mrozinski, Marueen Slachetka, Loretta Wanat, Marion Bombadiu, Angie La Jeunesse, Cecil Nielsel 119 SECRETARIES Marge Blout, Sandra Nunes, Ruth Montcalm, Melanie Pasternak, Evelyn Nietupski 120 ♦ATHLETICS VARSITY SOCCER 1st Row- Mike Kijak. The first shafts of crimson light reach out toward the sky. Their delicate fingers caress the pillars of stone and stroke the crystal towers. Together we set a course for the sun, for it symbolizes our very exsistence. The dawn of our lives is now, and we must strive for our own beginnings. We may endure hardships and despair, and some may fail, but to prevail is essential, in our hopes, our dreams, our fantasies, and our futures. 178 I SENIOR PROM The Senior Prom was held on May 30, 1983 at the Quality Inn in Chicopee, Mass, from eight o ' clock until midnight.
