The art classes participated in build- ing a float for the first time this year. Mr. Olsen's classes prepared a very competitive entry. Everyone will have to look out for them in the fu- ture. Snoopy was the senior's entry and their float won 3rd place. 'IT

BLACK CA 7' BEING! GOOD LUCK Homecoming came on September 19 which did not give the classes a lot of time to prepare for building the traditional floats. Each class met the second week of school and decided where to build. materials they would need, and times they would meet to build their floats. The Ex-Students Association decides the theme each year and this year it was cartoon charac- ters. Seniors have first choice and each class follows as to classification. The freshmen chose last but they came in first. Contrary to superstitions, a big black cat brought the 9th graders very good luck. Felix the Cat won first place. The freshmen started their first year in high school with a first-prize float and were very proud of their work. The judges liked the big black cat as well as the parade spectators. Fat Albert was the sophomorels choice of cartoon characters and Brent Miller portrayed him on the float. Hey Y Hey - Hey the sophomores walked away with second place. 10 Bugs Bunny rode atop the junior class float. Burette Douglas put lots of hard work into this silly rabbit and the juniors were very proud of it. Bugs came in fourth.

WWW M0305 HOMECOMING NEW OMER Chico I.S.D. has a mascot and the cheerleaders worked very hard to collect enough money to buy the mascot uniform. The money was donated by the community merchants and the mascot has be- come a real spirit booster. The mascot even helped raise money by posing with kids who wanted to have their picture made with a Dragon! Not only is this new addition a spirit booster, but Chico students can proudly present their mascot at all sports activities and let people know we are the Dragons. The person elected to wear the mascot uniform has a lot to do with the spirit it raises and this year Miss Tammy Buckner was awarded this honor by the entire student body. Even a Dragon can wear a mum at homecoming! If you don't think it's hard to sit in the crowded band section, play an instrument and at the same time keep your mum on straight, just ask Leah Hughes.
