BLIRGESS' F.H.A.ers This year the FHA had many people come give demonstrations. Once there was a candy demonstration. They also served for the Lion's club, cooked for the school board once a month, and made bread for the el- derly of our community. They had many money making projects such as sell- ing flower grams and Tom Wattl The Homemakers had Halloween and Christmas Parties. Many people showed at the Youth Fair and Chico Project Show. And then, there was the big event, a style show for the whole school. Karina Kron' enberger also was named Area Secretary. The FHA leader, Mrs. Bur- gess, who worked so hard to help the organization, de- served more credit than she got. Although at times, the kids seem very unhappy with her for pushing them so hard, in the end they under- stood her reasons for doing so. She expected a lot and usually got it. They participated in the first annual Chico F.F.A. and 4-H Prospect Show. During class they also went out to the new ag barn and worked so that the new barn would be finished by spring. ln Ag ll they learned woodworking, and in Ag lll they learned how to weld and build metal items. The Ag lV class really has been busy with shop work, too. There were also a lot of chapter farmers on the show string. The shows that were represented by Chico were Fort Worth, San Anto- nio, Houston, and Bridge- port. The busy year finally wound down with the Wise County Youth Fair. M52 , . The first year he was here he took a group to a Lake Worth contest for solists and came back with ll peo- ple that made it, and he took the high school band to Sandy Lake we played The Yellow Rose of Texas and Rainy Days and Mondays , we received a 2 from the judges and after the contest we had the rest of the day to ride all the rides and have all kinds of fun. Every year since Mr. Hill has been here we have re- ceived a 2 at Sandy Lake and that's pretty good. This year we lost alot of the band members to other activities, but we kept on playing. We were at every Pep Rally and every football game, rain or shine. The officers this year helped set an example for the younger, less experienced members on and off the marching field. One officer that really did a lot was Jeannie Thomp' son, the Drum Major. Our other offi- cers were Lindsay Hicks, presidentg Lesa Armor, Secretaryg .John Hal- lenbeck, managerg and John White, Uniform Chairman, who gave up alot of his time to get the New uni- forms ready for Friday nights and parades. The Chico band has came along way, but they still have a long way to go. Band students take a breather! Chico's Mighty Marching Band playing during halftime show. E I Band Director Mark Hill leads Christmas Concert. 1 BUSINESS AS LISLIAL Typing seems enjoyable to Ronnie McGuire. New methods for business students. Typing ll discovers theres more to it than it seems MATH, WHO NEEDS IT? YOU DO! Kyle. The word interested isn't strong enough to describe them. They ate. breathed. and slept computers. These two boy-wonders were rarely seen in their classes They would lie. cheat. or steal to get out of class to work in their office. And their office! Interior decorators were jealous Awards on the wall. leather chairs. and computer para phenalia turned an old closet into an executives dream. lf it could be done with com- puters. they tried it. Grading systems. TAB graphs. and even the playing of the school song were a sample of their ac- complishments. Trigonmetry class works hard. Twenty- six industrious members carried out the club's re- sponsibilities this year. Beta Club is hard work. Not only must the students keep an 88 average, but they must also open the con- cession stand every morn- ing, so that the high school has doughnuts and juice. Beta club is fun. The State convention was held in Fort Worth, and Jeannette Collier ran for secretary. All of the club members dressed as characters from the Old West and circulated among the crowd passing out Jeannette's the Best Bet Tokens. National Beta Club week is enjoyed by the entire school, as Beta members sponsor various activities such as Teacher Apprecia- tion Day and a pie-eating contest. At their annual Christmas party and business meeting, it was decided that the aca- demic requirements of Beta should be the same as Na- tional Honor Societyg there- fore, the minimum average required to get in to the club is now 90 percent.
