She led the way for girls in Ag and FFA by being one of the first girls to enroll in Ag classes and by receiving the Star Green Hand Award in her freshman year. Kelly was elected cheerleader her sopho- more and junior years and was voted lVlost Attractive h'er junior and senior years. Through hard work Kelly has earned the respect of the students and faculty at CHS and this same trait should bring her much success in the future. joey's motto is Be Involved . Although he is an honor student, he still finds time to participate in all phases of CHS life. Being active in the Beta Club, joey represented CHS by running for state Beta president. He was voted Best All Around his junior year and was FFA president his senior year. lf being voted Most Likely to Succeed for four consecutive years is an indication of loeyls potential, then CHS will continue to expect worthwhile contributions from joey. 55 Sharon stays involved in all school activities. Being interested in music, Sharon has participated in many aspects of band. She was a majorette her freshman and sophomore years and selected for Whols Who in Band her senior year. An interest in Business Education led Sharon to participate in U. l. L. Typing and to receive the Business Award her junior year. Being Head Cheerleader during her senior year, Sharon was voted Most Spirited by the senior class. While' Ernie has never been a student who searched the books in the quest for knowledge, his winning personality makes him likeable and popular with all students at CHS. As a practical joker who enjoys Happy Days , you will usually find Ernie having fun. Ernie usually sprinkles his fun with work. He has been very active in FFA by serving on numerous judging teams and has served on the i977-78 annual staff. 37 Class Favorites Senior junior Ernie Cox Brenda Newton Regina Dawson Walt Mowery s of' ,wi Sophomore Freshman Lisa Martin Paul jones ' john Singleton Betty Stack Most Spirited Senior junior Russell johnson Sharon Wiley Beverly Chesnut Eddie Cowley 1, iff' ,jf Sophomore Freshman 1. Members 52 This was a very good year for the F.H.A. primarily because the club members were able to participate in various projects. In this way, we learned about teamwork and coop- eration with others, while at the same time, we were able to raise funds for our club and to help others. Serving meals to the School Board and Lions' Club, our Fashion Show, the Chico Project Show and the Wise County Youth Fair, and our Mother-Daughter Ban- quet were some ofthe projects for 1977-78. joey Armstrong - FHA Beau wa., vid V J Q ai iiy N l Project Show Winners Homemaking I in action Future Farmers of America .. Air conditioning provides lots of comfort during the summer months, but for many thousands of homeowners it is also the biggest factor in the cost of electricity. On the average, air conditioning accounts for about half of summertime electric bills. Here are ways you can hold down the cost of air conditioning and still enjoy its comfort. Central Systems Set thermostat on 780, or higher, during the summer. Turn unit off if you'll be away from home several days. Keep equipment at top operating efficiency. Have it checked seasonally by qualified serviceman. Check filter every 30 days. Dirty filters cause equipment to use excessive electricity. If filter is permanent, clean by manufacturer's directionsg if it's disposable, it should be replaced when dirty. Keep furniture, draperies away from air outlets and returns. Clean grills often. Close draperies and blinds to keep out direct sunlight. Keep fireplace damper closed. Proper home insulation keeps the heat out, cuts energy use. insulation diinmiongi Call TP8tL. Shade on roof and walls can reduce energy needed to cool. But trim trees, shrubs away from outside compressor unit. Keep it free of leaves, debris. lf air flow is blocked, unit uses more energy. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. ,- 9. Weatherstrip doors and windows, caulk cracks to prevent drafts and cool air loss. 10. Keep windows closed. Open outside doors as little as possible. Window Units Follow above suggestions, plus these: Buy units with highest energy efficiency ratio lEEHl. Uses less electricity to cool. If EER is not on sales tag, ask for it or figure it yourself. Divide wattage into l'BTU capacity. Both figures are on unit. Place unit where it'll get as little direct sun as possible. Aim air outlets at lower half of doorway to next room to allow warm air from that room to enter at the doortop for recooling, recirculation. Never vent air conditioner into garage. Ventilation is usually too poor for top performance of your unit. Conserve electricity and you help conserve one or more of the fuels needed to produce it. Conserve fuels and you helpassure that there will be enough to meet essential needs for electricity in the future. When you pass a TP8tL office, warehouse, generating plant or other facility, you'll see that we've turned off all non-essential lighting. And, in as many other ways as possible, TP8tL is reducing its own uses of electricity. lf you would like additional information on consenfing electricity, call the Customer Senfice Representative in the TP8iL Office. 11. 12. 13. 14.
