The team enjoyed an overall nine win, one loss season, and this record was made possible both through the efforts of the coaching staff and the unit team play. Using both returning lettermen and members from last seasons Rambler and Junior Varsity squads, Coach Rock McClellan developed a team with a varied offense that proved quite successful. Equallyimpressive was the defensive unitwho heldthe opposition to a game average of 7 2 points. This figure is even more impressive when the offensive unit scored a total of 229 points Theonly defeat of the season came ln the last game, against Orovllle The tradition of the Chico Orovllle contest was well displayed In the final 7-6 score Playing conditions for this game weren't the best as College Field was a mud hole and a chlll north wmddld its best to keep both players and spectators shivering for the entire contest The team played well as aunlt and to pick any one playeras outstanding would be difficult The seniors who performed with regular consistency In the backfleld were Jim Andruss, Gar Hertzfeldt, Jim Griffith, andWlllle Burney Up front, the senior linemen who made themselves feltwere Chet Hinshaw, Jim Conger, Chuck Duncan, Gene Ingram, Richard Gibbs Bob Adams and Leo Beller Chad Langdon, Jerry Copper and Tom Hill proved themselves as defensive lmemen Chico High salutes the T958 Panther Varsity, Coaches, team physician Dr Maxwell Lee and team managers Mickey Prnehelm and Greg Watkins 7' if dw? The club sponsored the annual open house where outstanding Latin pro- jects, that had been made by the students gave the parents a better understanding and knowledge of the Roman Civilization. Also on the activity list of the J.C.L. was the club picnic and the installation of newly elected officers. Mr. Spicer, the faculty advisor for the club, along with the officers, helped the club a- chieve an outstanding year. 549' O aflilligil eww' 59 CSF if The California Scholarship Federation has a membership of students who attain high scholastic achievements. Led by their advisor, Mr. Ferrin, the club held an initiation at the beginning of each semester. The annual Brain Brawl with Oroville, Marysville, and Yuba City was held in Chico, and a field trip to the University of California were two of the club's activities. Life membership is earned by students who are members for four semesters including one earned in the senior year. These students receive seals on their diplomas. if by-s,- ff lr N aria .nv L .ffsrfhx M11 If -fr:- qvrstwsg 1 1 '17 '93 , ' -U11 , 'ship' iq Q I bali l' , .,.....s ..
