senior sweetheart atteffints Sharon Hartung Marie Benetti Sharleen Lambert Arm BOClCl'10p Ginger Hendrix Courtesy Duperfs Iewelers September of 1954 saw the beginning of the class of '57. As they entered Chico Senior High School, they had a feelin of unification despite the fact they were as yet new and unproved occupants. They orglanized quickly and elected Marc Sisk, class president, Mar ie Broyles, vice-president, Marsha Burton, secretary, Tom Tisc , treasurer, and student council repre- sentatives Iohn Lucclgiesi, Dave David, Sharleen Lambert, Ginger Hendrix lst semester, and Iudy Grossman 2nd semester. An important essential for the success of any class is pep, and as sophomores they topped the standards that had been prev- iously set up in past years. Pep thermometers were placed in the main hall and measured the amount of spirit in each class. When the contest concluded, it was the sophomores that reached the top first. Their other activities seemed to show their willingness to work together as a group an they put on'a Christmas skit, a school dance, Sea Fantasy, and a terrific assem- bly, Our Country Through the Years. Under the leadership of the junior class officers, Sharon Durst, president, Iolyne Di Na oli, vice-president, Carolyn Thomp- son, secretary, Carol Ruedy, treasurer, and student council representatives Iim Rankin, Phill Speegle, Nancy Nugent, and Becky Gould, the class of '57 had an outstanding junior year. They put on the junior Prom, Blue Mist, and the never to be forgotten assembly, Club 57. This assembly was organized to precision and was judged the best in the school and presented to Yuba City and Red Bluff High. They also sponsored and participated in a junior class party and a junior fashion show, Cin- derella's Walk. To close this successful year, they put on the traditional Senior Farewell, Moonlight Moments, in a manner the honored seniors will never forget. To add to their record of junior achievements, it should never be overlooked that Boys' and Girls' State was excellently represented by Philip Maxey and Harriett Baxter. As for the students' high school careers, their senior year is the ultimate of excitement and activities. They were destined for sure success, with the election of Ronnie Stewart, class president, Diane Margetts, lst semester, Ramona Schmidt, 2nd se- mester vice-presidents, Nancy Nu ent, secretary, Hariett Baxter,- treasurer, and Marc Sisk, Collin Hyde, Nancy Gates and Kay Prieheim, as student councif representatives. Their activities began early with the Senior Dinner and Dance, which was exclusively for seniors and their dates. Once again they put on a terrific assembly, The Ed Sullivan Show, which was enjoyed by both students and faculty. As February neared, lans were made and expertly carried out for the Senior Sweet- heart Dance, japanese Moonf' and the coronation of the Sjenior Sweetheart, Ann Bockhop. Art Robinson, lst semester, and Steve Moody, 2nd semester, senior yell leaders, assistin Don Griffith, Mary Bechard and Gerry Millhouse, did a wonderful job leading the seniors in yells for the Senior-Faculty and Senior-junior games. For outstanding achievements the Bank of America presented cups to Tom Tisch, science and mathematics, Shelley Denny, fine arts, Marc Sisk, liberal arts, and Carolyn Brouse, vocational arts. In addition Collin Hyde, laboratory science, Phil Speegle, art, Carol Ruedy, social science, Nancy Gates, foreign languages, Averil Mead, home economics, and Thaine Allison, agriculture, received Bank of America certificates. Elijah Williams was chosen as the outstanding Lineman of the year and Iohn Lucchesi, was presented the Al Schlueter trophy for the best basketball player of the year. As the seniors complete their last year of high school, they want to express gratitude to their advisors, Mr. S. Ross and Mrs. A. Ward, for the help and guidance they received throu hout their three successful years at the Chico Senior High School. Once again September will see the beginning of the class of '57, but this time it will see this class as individuals that are now entering into the future as new and unproved occupants.
