HL' RUNS . . , , ' Wm, 9-Q v .- 4 '. QW! sf' Principals essaqe A TRIBUTE I would like to pay tribute to vision, foresight and courage: three qualities very rare and precious. There are rarely times when a community is blessed with a civic body that rises to the heights and serves those it represents magnificently. Envisage with me a relatively small community, a high school of approximately four hundred students, located on a plot of some three to four acres. Such were Chico and Chico High School during the years 1918 to l922. A need for a new high school plant had been making itself felt for a number of years. Therefore, the Board of Education began looking into the construction of a new high school plant as early as l9l7 or 1918. This body labored long and earnestly seeking for a satisfactory solution of their needs. You can rest assured they were belabored with the usual recriminations that make themselves vocal when a public body proposes to spend a large sum of money. A plot of ground, forty-five acres in extent, which at that time was a wheat field, was purchased as a site of the new high school and on which the present Chico Senior High School is located. These four men and one woman had the vision and the imagina- tion to dare to provide for the future. Their aim was not to pre- pare just for tomorrow but also to provide for a distant tomorrow. With the assistance of a firm of San Francisco architects, Woolet '35 Lamb, they evolved the design for the present Chico Senior High School. Think back with me for a moment of a Board of Education having the temerity, the imagination, and the determination to con- struct a plant which would house two to two and a half times as many students as were enrolled in their student body. How could they foresee the growth of Chico-from whence did they draw the imagination and courage to provide for that future? Today we accept Chico Senior High School with little thought of the care. the forethought and the boldness necessary to provide for us. As I walk these halls filled with swarms of young people, I realize that we in Chico are deeply indebted to Dr. N. T. Enloe, Mrs. H. C. Compton, George E. Canfield, H. O. Jacobson and C. E. Stolp who so ably represented the people of Chico. Would that it were possible for us, as students and teachers of Chico Senior High School. to follow in their footsteps and to exhibit to some degree the imagination, the fine judgment and necessary courage to plan for the future as they so ably planned for us. There is always a tomorrow to look forward to, to make ready for. May we have the same earnestness, the same industry, and the same fortitude that so ably provided for us. Then tomor- row for Chico Senior High School will always be bright. CARL J. This farm club will go a long way in developing material for next year s Panther varsity. This year s team is considered to be one of the smoothest fielding and hardest hitting teams in years. Skip is quite proud of his team that rushed to a four-won one-lost record at the time of the deadline for copy. Stu Westlake Len Fry Mike Daugherty Dick Lund and Keith Calkins are just a few who have been receiving plaudits by Coach Skip. Rich Spring is considered by many to be one of the Hnest up and coming pitchers in quite a while. All in all Chico Senior High has quite a lot to look forward to in the future years in regards to baseball. LI v Dimizmzds Are II fyllffy-9 Hesf I fum! f L N . i g, ' AI 'Ti T v-L l ' ' 1 Y: V .
