Through its doors, enter generation after generation to find within an inexhaustdtble supply of opportunity. Many will supply themselves thereof and leave, prepared to pick up the responsibilities of manhood and womanhood and become an asset to their coun- try. Many others have left and will continue to leave empty-handed to become a liability. lit is for each to decide on entering whither he Shall go on leaving. f The High School, nothing but senseless brick and mortar, remains deaf to- our shouts i; jeyebiihd to our tears of disappointment, offering its wealth of opportunity to those Zr J; wtse enough to partake thereof. As we enter its doors for the first time, we are to CI great extent, master of What we hail write on the next three pages of our lives. As we leave, three pages later, what we Tie written is to a great extent, master Of us. win Front row: Merrill Green, Sara Bussey, Rose Courtwright, Mazell Osteen, Toyce Kendrick, Icanne Dotson, Betty Dryden, Pat Simmons. Mr. Streeter, Iesse Hinkle, Bob Salter, Maxrne MCDutf, Betty Kay Brown, Kathleen Riley, Irene Oekerman, Jeanne Wiley, Ioan Irwin, Mita Ann Minnett, Bil1y Freeman HISTORY OF THE CHICK-CHAT ANNUAL Unti1 the school year of 1945-46, the publication of a HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL tor Chickasha High School had stopped with the pub1ication of the 1924 edition of the TOMA- HAWK. 1n the fall of 1945, Mr. Streeter, Senior C1ass Sponsor, undertook to revive the publica- MR. STREETER Sponsor and Business Manager tion of ANNUALS for our High Schoo1. The Staff was e1ectedl being composed of one Staff member from each C1ub and C1ass. Suggestions for a name were submitted by a11 who cared to do so and from these se1ections was chosen the name HCHICK CHAT. Having no experience and not wishing to over- estimate our ability, the 1946 Annua1 was strictly a photographic process, even the printed matter being photographed. A nice book was produced for its kind. The 1947 book, profiting from our experience, has a better type of cover, more satisfactori1y bound and the printed matter type-set. The 1948 book was the first of the padded back covers and reached the best we can expect from the $2.50 price we Charge. JOYCE KENDRICK Editor-in-Chief The 1949 book as you can see is the same type. The book now produced annually for $250 is about a $5.00 or $7.50 book in other schoo1s. Mr. Streeter says the staff this year has been unusua11y unse1tish, untiring and 1aithtu1 in the preparation of the book and the en- tire Stait wishes to express its appreciation of the cooperation which has been generaHY given us. We want the Annual before school closes: Patsy Davis, Robert Dunlap, Bllly McClure, Don Spence, Thomas Sturgell. FAREWELLA By the time this Annual reaches our hands, it Will be about time for the Class of 1949 to say GOODBYE to all our school- mates WhOSe friendship we have come to prize so highly and appreciate so much during the years we have been associated together in Dear Old Chickasha High. We do not claim to be the best Class to graduate from our High School, neither do we admit being the poorest. We are just an ordinary class, and it is better so because the masses of the people are just ordinary, warm-hearted people. We know that at times we have tried the patience of our teachers tand they ourst but in this hour of parting, we hope you realize that it was not intentional and that we know that you have never at any time had anything but our welfare in mind. And so, now the parting, to our school- mates and the Faculty, Good-bye, Good Luck and God bless you. HISTORY OF THE BROODER In the fall of 1939, the Senior Class tClass of '401 at- tempted to revive the pubhcation of cm ANNUAL. tThe last published having been THE TOMAHAWK, 1924, but there was more talk and too little Hputting the money on the bar- rel head. 1 When the ANNUAL was given up, to our surprise THE CHICKASHA DAILY EXPRESS made us an offer to pub- lish the BROODER, the graduation edition of the EXPRESS that nearly took our breath away. The BROODER began With the Class of 1940 and has been published annually ever since. During those years, the profits made by the Sen- ior Class have been put into worthwhile memorials and has amounted to practically $1,500.00. - .a; - , '. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The Chickasha Chapter of the National Hon- or Society was organized on February 29, 1940, at the direction of Mr. O. K. Holsapple, principal. Miss Clara Belle Owen, organizer and sponsor, has continued in that capacity. There are twelve charter members, and since that time there have been one hundred and thirty-one girls and fifty- two boys who have signed the register. One of the purposes of the organization is to be of service to the school. The members are responsible for an assembly program at the be- ginning of school, in which new students of Chickasha High School are introduced. They keep a record of school activities in the form of a scrap book. They also compile an activity record of every student. This group arranges the trophy cases. This year, with the help of Mrs, Holhday, they cleaned and polished the silver trophies that were dis- colored in the tire that demolished the old build ing. With the addition of new gold trophies, it was p0551b1e to arrange the silver and gold to make a striking contrast. In the second semester, the organization has charge of an assembly program, on which candi- dates for membership in the Chickasha Chapter are introduced. Ten per cent of the senior Class and five per cent of the Junior class are selected on the basis of Character schotarship, leadership and service to the school . In May they conduct a format initiatory 59th ice for the candidates Parents alumni, faculty and members ot the hoard of education are in- vited to attend the ceremony Officers: of tho tocat chapter are Ami Austin, president Arm towiio X'tCO miemdent Fat'e Hm- kle, secretaryiturziitm totiimo Dotson Stiidettt Council repiiomhtttttxw tmti Widmethtmet Chick Chat repreemhttihxx Other Candidates were: Ruth Sovil . . . The following officers were elected for this year's term: President, Mita Ann Minnett; Vice-President, De Iuan Sweeny; Secretary, Ioanne Dotson; Treasurer, Diane Cunningham and Cheer Leader, Betty Reed. The sophomore and junior cheer leaders were Carol Hockenson and Louise Ers- land. Ann Levine was our representative to Student Council and Betty Kay Brown our Chick Chat repre- sentative. We again chose Miss Winifred Langston as our club sponsor at the beginning of the school year. We marched at 8:00 in the mornings and partici- pated in the parades held on Friday afternoons after pep assemblies. We attended alltour teams' football games and took an active part in the coronation of the football queen who, we are proud to say, is a member of our club. We were in charge 'of the queen's float for the annual Homecoming parade. The Chickettes were greatlyrpleased with their banquet which was held at the First Christian Church in honor of the football boys. The boys chose their most outstanding players of the year. Our assembly program was a great success be- cause all participated willingly and to the best of her ability. We leave a good record this year and hope that it will serve as a challenge to others who have the privilege of being Chickettes in the years to follow. The 'Chicks' were undefeated in its regular season, which is something that has never been done by any other Chickasha High team within the past 20 years. The Chicks, with their new head coach, Mr. Ioe Gibson, who came right out of the professional ranks, and his assistant, Mr. A. W. Some of the highlights of the season were: the defeat of Oklahoma CityCentral, who at that tlme, were rated at the top of the state rating, 51 to 7;, the defeat of the Lawton Wolverines, 20 to 0, the terrific comeback in the second half to de- immmmmmv E E g E , , Team Photographer Physician Jug gar. ex? .
