As we leave Chichester, our departure is laden with many pleasant memories of our school da s. But even though these memories won't be forgotten, they must now be ilaid aside, for we have crossed the threshold from the classroom to the wide open would, which is now to be our home, Having reached the pinnacle of our high school career, graduation, we now find ourselves on the first rung of the ladder of life. We must now again work our way to the top, but many obstacles confront us. International uncertainty, political unrest, and our personal problems, each present a challenge to us. We feel that the United Nations has helped tremendously in maintaining an international standard whereby compliance ofother countries contributes much to final unification. Asthe future workers and lead- ers of the great country in which we live, we are determined to hold forth the standards of Justice and Liberty as the United Nations has so relentlessly done in the past. Through the United Nations and the divine providence of Almighty God, our country will still hold forth those standards and al- ways be a lighthouse in the midst of a troubled sea, shining forth the principles of Freedom and Equality. 3 Dedication 1. 1 48.1, flax all i l lllllw i sg 6 Q ss? fr Q X' ,.,.. s X! ff' ff ff In the dedication of our annual, we the class of l957, have chosen a member of the facult who, in our opinion, has instilled in the students of Chichester the qualities of good citizenship and sportsmanship. M0560 Among the vital organization of Chichester, the cafeteria staff BOSQC- under the capable supervision of Miss Pericles, plays an important part in the well-being of our school. Feeding a school of almost a thousand is quite a task-a task well done throughout the school year by the staff. The group of custodians pictured below, under the direction of Mr. Lavin, makes certain that our school is kept clean and pleasant to fulfill the needs of its pupils. Hats off to these fine groups for their services rendered to us and the school. LEFT TO RIGHT: William Everugham, Martin Lavin, Margaret Evemgham, Helen Hart, Harmon Obier, and Marion Shelton, MR. LAVIN 'ref -- A .rw s F4 gif. 555:24 H - - 261515 WCW NYQAWU 1555 ?f?i5fUI'y As we approach the end of our high school career, we would like to reminisce and recall some of the highlights of our school days. Return with us, then, to February 17, 1954, and the organization of the Class of '57. We elected the following officers, Albert Kardine, President, Hugh Dutton, Vice President, May Mayer, Secretary, and Howard Nickle, Treasurer. These people have served in their respective offices throughout our high school years. Mrs. Hilda Van- derslice and Mr. William Capriotti were chosen as advisors. During the year, we sponsored one dance, Freshman FroIic. At our first class meeting as Sophomores, we chose Miss Jane Keller to replace Mrs. Van- derslice as advisor to our class. We sponsored the Christmas dance, at which time the newly or- ganized dance band made their debut. We also sponsored the St. Patrick's Day dance. How happy we were on April 20, 1955, when we assembled to order our class rings! The arrival of our class rings, during the first week ofschool, highlighted our Junior year. During the first class meeting of the year, we selected red and white as our class colors, red and white roses as our class flowers, and as our motto, If you have knowledge, let others light their candles by it. During the year, we sponsored two dances and sold Christmas cards to raise money for our class. Many of our classmates participatedin various outstanding activities, such as Scott's Hi-Q, District Band, District Chorus, State Chorus, Student Council, and athletics. Certainly another highlight of this year was the rom, Evening in Paris. Then, towards the close of our Junior year, several members of our clliuss met to prepare the supplement of the 1956 Annual and lay the foundations for our own yearbook. Then, .at last, we rose to the position of Seniors. How proud we were to present the Sen- ior play, Beauty and the Beef. Two of the many highlights of this year were the receiving of our class pictures and name cards. Once again our class was represented in many school activities. Now we are looking for- ward to our Class Trip in May, and also to our Graduation on June 4, 1957, when we will leave and go our separate ways. We will never forget, though, the fond memories of our high school days. , j , gun' ' P on ,'l:':, 3- I' A e '- W Cluaa 'conf' . , iii, :,, 'Q -: a , nuff' Qu P, -I ' ' f , ' .uf '-ngfl vu- -.1-J ,o X1 uf 5. They are scattered over the face of the earth and many have accomplish- ed unusual things. LOOK WITH ME NOW ' ' ' ' ' Ten years into the future. As I enter the U, N, Building, I see various familiar personalities. Among these I see Repre- Q.-if-19 sentative Robert Quillen about to make a presentation to the Genera1Assembly. Representative Albert R' my Kardine will follow with a presentation opposing the former, This has been predicted to be quite 5 ,t -fu Oh, there are the secretaries preparing to take notes. I recognize several of them. There's f I Janet Ward, Bonnie Short, and Jane Ashley. ' As the GeneralAssembly begins to organize, I see the translators taking their respective places, Among them I see the noted Japanese translator, John Preziuso, also the German interpreters William Gorman and Steve Strazdus. After I thank the guide, Paul Gaster, for such an interesting tour, I meet an old friend, Am- bassador Thomas Jones from France. I-Ie invites me to attend the celebration of Bastille Day. Many interesting. ' I J i 9 u Jud xx people will be at the festival, Among them there will be, the world famous surgeon, Kay Dulin, and ss-- her assistants, Amy Tyler, and Frances Curley. Also, there will be other greats such as Pete Aaron, an engineer, and his assistant, Roland Lamplughg Jim Sheeky, the famous football star: Bob Wilson, the well-known chem- ist, and Miriam Wall, the modern artist. Walking from the building, I notice a janitor shoveling the snow, Oh, that's Claude Burrrrr. I instructed the driver, Doyle Pointer to take me to the airport sol could purchase my ticket, The ticket agent was Barbara Harris, She soon showed me a schedule, which I accepted. I then purchased a roundtrip ticket to several places beginning at Genoa, Italy. While in Genoa I plan to visit the well-known pharmacist, Dr. Jimmy Jacono. Having made all the necessary arrangements, 1 proceeded to telegraph Dr. Jacono of my visit. Before returning to my hotel room, I decided to have some lunch in the airport cafeteria, Looking around, I noticed Barbara Rich, the opera star, sitting at another table, and Iasked her to join me. She did. She told me of the career which Janet Scott had sought and achieved, She is now teaching school and enjoying it. . I ordered my lunch from Wanda Hipkins, the waitress. She gave my order for spaghetti to Doodle Jacono, the chef. While eating my lunch, I saw the dishwasher whom I recognized as Carol Green. I left for my hotel room in a taxi which was driven by Phyllis Evans, The following weeks passed quickly, and I found myself on my way to Italy. While on the airplane, I saw the pilot, Charles Esbin and the co-pilot, Jerry Grady. The Hostesses Judy Scott, Mary Lou Ferguson, Ruthann June, Pat Nugent and Barbara Driscoll made my trip very pleasant. Among the passengers were Stanley qCharlie Chanj Lech, the former Miss Arlene Cotter with her husband, the re- cording artist, Georgia Shaw, May Mayer who has experienced a successful career as an Italian Movie Star, Betty Clark and Tootsie Beck, the women athletes who will participate inthe Olympics, and book Magazine nominees for best dressed man and woman in the world, Shirley Lees and lotan Poore. After arriving in Rome, I visited many of the famous sites. I then boarded a train for Genoa. The porter, Chester Field, carried my bags to the train where the cond-uctor Ted Arrington helped me up the steps. The hostess, Juanita Wor- rell, found a seat for me beside Don Beck who was on his way to see his wife, the former Mary Ann Stichter, who is study- ing dress designing in Genoa. The engineer, Arnell Rollison, started the train and in a few hours I arrived in Genoa, As I was getting off the train, I ran into Carol Garvine and invited her to the party, Icaught a bus driven by John Borsos. When I arrived at the hotel, the clerk, Gene Davis, assigned me to my room. The bell boy, Pete Chance carried my bags to my room and the maid, Jody Walker helped me unpack, In the lobby I had my dinner and was serenaded by the violinest, Dick Bryant, After dinner Iwent to a theater and saw a motion picture starring Donald Simpson. I bought some candy bars from the candy vendor, Ray McFall, and the usher, David Brady, found a seat for me. I saw several standins whom I recognized in the movie. They were Eunice Chapman, Billy Iverson and Rich Snow. Finally. the night of the big party arrived. At the party, Iwas entertained with a floor show. The program was as follows: a song by the worlds most famous trumpet player, Dave Curry: cha-cha by Maggie Colson and Warren William- song a quartet consisting of Howard McKim, Jerry Holden, Samuel Tyler, and Don Sommer. Then there was a guitar solo by Don Rieck. Everyone enjoyed hearing him again. The refreshments were then served by Bob Tyson's Catering Service. I recognized some of the caterers to be Russell Willis, Billy Mixon, Terry Dodson, and Bobby Hill. As Iwas conversing with one of my friends, Thelma Williams, she told me that the cooks were Delores Evans and Geraldine Hickey, After the refreshments were cleared away we had some more entertainment, One of the attractions was an all girl band. I noticed several others of our class, such as Jo McCarthy, on the drumsg Pat Weidel, on the trumpetg Janet Hipkins, on the clarinet: and Lois Marantino, on the bass fiddle, Next was a vocal duet by Barbara Coleman and Nancy Robinson, The evening came to a close with a comedy act by Diane Millichap and Issy Clark. The master of ceremonies, Howard Nickle did a commendable job, As I went to the cloak room, I noticed that Liz Junto had taken over the attendant's job. On the way out the door, I saw Mary Crabtree, Marie Riley, and Althea Walters, and Betty Clark walking just ahead of me, I went back to my apartment for the night. Early the next morning, I got up and packed my bags, I went to the airport and was on my way home after a very enjoyable journey. 57 - K E ' 1 We 10 Q iii? . . ,,.:., ga- I w . 1 . . 1573... 6? . . f I . . , X Y lf X Q n Z: X Q x x 22 Q r S 5 +9 h we X '41 9- 5 S A ' 9 cf R , X I 'qi Akk' I .6 . . Student Council The student council has obtained more power in the conduction of school activities this year than it has previously experienced. The credit for this belongs partly to the fact that it meets for two periods each week. Last year it met for half a period only. This addition of time has enabled many more accomplishments. The iunior high school has a separate student council meeting which enables them to con- centrate more fully on their own problems. The council, therefore, has an opportunity of hearing every student's difficulties. We wish to thank the advisor and the officers for all of their time and effort in making the student council a success. The parade season began in May with the Armed Forces Day parade, at which time the band receiived a gold leaf insignia for their citation ribbon, signifying five years participation in this ara e. P The band was kept ver busy during the months which ensued. They appeared in such places as New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City. Everywhere they marched they were warmly received. They brought a great deal of fame to Chichester. They received prize after prize in reco nition of their talents. After such a hectic but successful marching season, with a huge sigh of reqief and aching feet, the band is happy to return to the comfort of the music room in preparation for the spring concert. It is of little wonder that we of Chichester are so proud of our band. We therefore wish to salute our band and wish them the best of success in years to come. mx. The drill team consists of twelve girls and their Drill Sergeant, Flora Wilson. These girls practiced every Monday evening throughout the summer with Mr. Sacko. They practiced with the band whenever possible, and duringnactivity period Monday and Tuesday. All this practice has proven worth-while as they were presented a first place trophy naming them The T956 Junior Drill Team Champions of Pennsylvania. As Cheerleaders these girls attend all our football and basketball games. They are in there cheering regardless of scores and conditions. They have tried to infuse a greater amount of school spirit into the lives of the students, and have succeeded to a great extent. The Cheerleaders consist of ll girls and two captains: Shirley Lees, first captain, Lois Marantino, second captain. Two bakes, one dance, and a tag day were held in order to raise money for new uniforms, which they received on December 7. , These girls along with their directors, Miss Barnett and Mr. Sacko are to be congratulated for their great success. - g,-. -f -.1-.
