Gone forever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of the 1954 Senior Class that, as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recapture those moments - and the echoes will begin again S- . , , v ,. .- .' wk, 1.4, I ,Y if lalarecia fion To Mrs. Frances A. Miller, the Class of 1954 wishes to express our gratitude in earnest apprecia- tion for all the guidance which she has given to us. Mrs, Miller was elected as our class advisor when she was teaching her first year at the high school, Since then Mrs. Miller has always worked for the benefit of our class. Although she was new as a class advisor, she always gave us wise counseling. The standards which she has set before us have enabled our class to think more clearly and intel- ligently. The Class of 1954 is indeed thankful to such a person as Mrs, Miller, It is with great honor that we dedicate this page of our yearbook to her as a small token of appreciation for her efforts and interests in our class. vis-. We greatly feel that our future will be much brighter and better organized underMr. Hutchison's guidance. The above photo was taken after our first meet. The members from Chichester are seated in the center behind the name cards. They are LEFT TO RIGHT: David Bau her, Richard Aaron, Leilani Pilling, and Audrey Murphy. Missing grom the photo, but very active, were John Lober and our advisor, Mr. Hutchison. Q! Wm lg Richard Aaron learns procedure - of the payroll department. With an able advisor and a co- operative staff much progress was soon achieved. This yearbook is full of many happy events which oc curred during our first and last year in the new high school. We, the seniors of this yearbook staff, wish to thank everyone who co-operated with us. We sincerely extend to the underclassmen, who will eventually become a part of a yearbook staff, much success. We believe that their work is of the finest quality and this work combined with their reasonable rates has certainly been an asset to the Senior Class. 73 Our band was graced T this year with the addition of our already popular drill team. Starting anew, these girls very quickly attained the precision and cooperation neces- sary for proper function of such an organization. They were directed by the student sergeant Vivian Derrickson, who was ably assisted by student Rita Russo. These two cooperating with Miss Barnett were responsible for this inspiring organization. lllllll HAIVI BIZLUW, RIGHT TO LEFT: Rita Marantino, Rat Mclntyre, Florence Getchcil, Ruth liiigiit-s, Yivian Derrickson, Rita Russo, Joan Wniverson, Joan Suter, Barbara Linn, Cami Austin, Nancy Wetzci, Pearl War- ren, Betty Lee fflark, Leona Tliawlcy. -....---- -,' 4, mlm.-was ,,,, hmmm 1 H--m igj 'Wi 'I Zhjjrmamluovivilg rgummnnummiwluln g-.--anmmaumnnpubll-X, 4. IIHHRHAIIIRS A familiar sight at most of our activities at the school this year has been the Chichester Cheerleaders. This group of girls, full of vigor and vitality, cheer- ed our boys on at all football and basketball games throughout the year. The smoothness and the precision of both groups, especially the drill team, is the result of much time and energy spent in practice. , 1 f ,M iam .Av E r ,..:.g 1 -4 WX-LSNQN qf '-A-1,-..z...,,,M gum ' 2 .pv- ' , V, , -- mu- ,M .w . ,, , VA., A A , ,A f T . -15 .- ,M Q ,, .M V -1 ,-1-fa ,J .H .0 f ' ' MW- M . The maroon and gray were led by four seniors and an array of underclassmen in their 1953 gridiron appearances. Tasting defeat in their two opening games. the Eagles came back to romp over Prospect Park. The offensive squad showed their ability to score. In the next three games, the handicap that had marked the team from the beginning, lack of experience, took its toll. Clifton Heights, Eddystone, and Nether Providence defeated our stubborn Eagles, Inspired by the inter-school trophy given by our supe rvising principal Mr. Richards, the maroon and gray triumphed over a hard fighting Glen Nor team to bring back the first keg of that inter-school trophy. A more fitting climax to the season minutes the Lords knew they were in for a rough after- noon. Allin all. the season can not be called unsuccessful. For in sports as in life, it is not the score that counts but how the game was played. 78 9 .f,n-1 Jdfwayd air 1 I 7' W pfay 34,331 ...fr 'L 4 W ' Q! The team lost 3 games, but from these the members developed and learned the fundamentals of football. The fact that one must play as part of a team and not as an individual and the value of physical conditioning were learned by each member of the squad. Starting our campaign in tremendous fashion, we began with 72 gridiron hopefuls. After two hard weeks, the squad was reduced considerably, and as the season neared completion, our squad numbered 20. We sincerely hope that in the future our varsity will benefit strongly from the junior high team. FIRST ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: D. Rieck, D. Beck, S. Tyler, A. Kardine, P. Gaster, W. Lawrence, J. During these years, she has never failed to give aid and consultation to the pupils that visit her office daily. Her activities consist of assisting Dr. Helen R. The objects of the P. T. A. are to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and church, to raise the standards of home life, to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth to bring into close relations h t e home and the school so that parents and teachers may co operate intelli entl in ' S Y the training of the child, and to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantage in physical mental, social, and spiritual education. The P. T. A. pledged themselves in full support to our school board when they proposed the Thaddeus Stevens School in 1945. V On May ZZ, 1950 a joint meeting of the school board, Dr, Leech, and the P. T was held in the Upper Chichester High School. The issue before us was whether or not Upper Chichester should build a new junior-senior high school Realizin th .A. . g e inadequacy of our present facilities, the increase in junior-senior enrollment, and also the increase in taxes, the P. T. A. gave a vote of confidence to our school board so that they might take the steps necessary to obtain the new junior-senior high school. During the planning and the erection of the new school the P. T. A. was kept informed of th bl ' e pro ems and progress and gave their support when needed. Understanding among the students, teachers, and co mmunity is the aim of the P. T. A. , and we trust always will be. SEATED, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Pennington, Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. Groce.
