Their parents, or their forefathers, were born in many dif- ferent countries of the world. They are representative of many creeds and races. Truly, they and their fellow stu- dents combine to create, at CVS, a great melting pot. No two are alike. They have different abilities, different talents, in great degree, or in lesser degree. But they do have certain characteristics in common: they are eager and expectant. They look forward to success and achievement. Many travel long distances each day, past numerous other high schools, that they may express their individuality and find pathways to successful futures in the classrooms, shops, and laboratories of Chicago Vocational High School. OOR9 They are amazed - and sometimes bewildered - at vastness, the variety, that is CVS. But they are also im- the the the pressed with the beauty and the splendid facilities in Palace.,' They learn quickly to feel at home, because fact that they do have so many differences or backgrounds, tends to draw our students together - to make them more friendly, more tolerant toward one another. We, of the faculty, and the older students at CVS, have the tremendous responsibility of encouraging and nurturing the hopes and aspirations of all students who enter our doors. And through these doors go 'forth our graduating seniors. We hope and trust that they have even greater hopes and aspirations - and abilities, than when they entered. To them is extended our warmest wishes for happiness and success - and the reminder that the doors of CVS are always open to them for future- visits. XLLJ. f

I enum 'sim . ' ' 'nv ciemttste IN THE MAKING The door opens wide to those students of C.V.S. whose in- terests are scientific. General Science, Botany, Biology, Phys- ics, and Chemistry, all are offered and the large enrollment in these classes indicates an ever increasing desire on the part of our students to participate intelligently in a society where things scientific are the big news of the day. Dorothy Panka, Collette Walkawski, Karen Goranson, George Kozda, and Mark Beebe are making good use of an enlarged model in studying the complete structure of the human eye. Come, come, Sylvia Hatfield, you will never be a biologist if that little lizard that John Soghigian is holding causes you to make such a face. Emie Wisniewski seems to have the rapt attention of Marian Watson and Karen Ko- vac as he demonstrates the distillation pro- cess. Tom Shusta, in background, didn't spill a drop when the flash bulb went off. Phil Hauze is using a tesla coil to demon- strate to Elsa Carsten the behavior of high voltage electricity.
