Q. c.- 3? J: UQ' uni' Maintaining pace with the progress of indus- dry has been one of the outstanding traditions of the Palace, These two pages give evidence that the Palace considers the adaptation of new ideas and new processes in indusuv to be an integral part of the development of our curric- ulum. Plastics shop is an example of the effort on the part of CYS to fulfill the growing demands of new industry for competent technicians. Ule consider this course to he one of the most modern offered in anv school in the country. This new industry in the short space of its existence has opened manv uses for new pro ducts and new materials. In addition to securing excellent positions in a new and growing industrv, many graduates decide to continue their education and event uallv find occupation in the fields of engineer ing and research. lllurning now from some of the details that many might call merely functional, we now encounter a field which may be considered truly beautiful as well as functional. The out- standing decorations that contribute so much to the many stage productions of the Palace are the products of the horticulture department under the direction of Mr. Robert Blain. Although the Iapanese are said to be the past masters at the art of floral arrangement, anyonc who has ever seen any of the displays produced bv the students of this department is sure to argue with that opinion. The traditional beauti of Japanese culture is combined, however, with the practice and experience of an excellent inf structor to produce a result that conforms to thc The Art of Beaut Avery finest traditions of American culture and beauty. Students in this subicct learn thc care and growth of plants and flowers in addition to the artistic einbcllishments which inaltc horticulture an interesting as well as profitable career. Not everyone is promised a green thumb upon completion of the course, but certainly an ap- preciation of the better things in lift- will add imineasurably to the eniovment and satisfaction of living. Sharon Lueffgrcn, Roger anderson, Nanci Stomberg, and Edward Evans are in the pro cess of prunning and transplanting potted flowers. Jn. 'WF ,MW wif? I, I V1 .1 iii! fo lv- au, f
