This program vividly portrays the important influence that the greatest storx' ever told has had upon all the facets of our life at the Palace. Each year the spectacle seems to heeomc more impressive as the music and Costume design depart ments under the direction of hliss Mildred Replte and hlr. .Ierry Eddy, respectively, enter so wholeheartedly into the produetion. The living Nativity Tahleau has hecome sxm- lnolic, not only of the production itself. hut also of the attie rude of the faeultv and student body toward sacred ideas and ideals. This years production also featured a living Christmas tree which lit up at a pre-arranged signal. The cntire show was truly awe inspiring and served to illuminate the deeper meanings ol the season and our way of life.

Perhaps one of the strongest and most ancient traditions in society is the tradition of the master craftsman. Such men and women through the course of history have con- tributed mightily to the progress of civilization. We feel that our affiliation with this tradition is one of the funda- mental principles in our code of customs. The machine shop is presented first because it symbolizes one of our traditions that has served to make our country the greatest that history has ever known. With our technological know- hown and ability to overcome the problems of mass pro- duction, our country has become the bulwark of freedom. And yet, we have not lost sight of the tradition that the man who is a master craftsman is a man who takes great satisfaction in life. Richard Belt, operating the lathe, and Thomas Hill, working the vertical milling machine, are examples of the training available here. They and their classmates represent the very best in our continuing tradi- tion of producing outstanding craftsmen who know and understand the uses and limits of the complicated machin- erv in modern industrv.
