SOUTH CHICAGO Chamber of Commerce A number of our members were active in planning and supporting the project of erecting a large and com- prehensive vocational school which was completed just prior to the war. Authcntically described as the most complete and best equipped institution of its kind, and also because of the industrial background of our community, Chicago Voca- tional School will continue to be one of the major centers of interest and support to the members of our organization. We look upon this institution with the civic pride of an achievement. Best wishes for continued success to the faculty and the students of Chicago Vocational School. DR. T. E. URBANEK Prexirleizt FORMER ALDERMAN AND FEDERAL CONGRESSMAN Wlmen it was originally proposed to build a vocational high school in Chicago, the southeastern sector of the city immediately recognized the importance of such an insti- tution within its own great industrial area. Civic leaders, industrial officials, as well as officials of union labor and the public joined in a campaign to have the school erected adjacent to, what is perhaps, the greatest industrial part of Chicago. During the war the school was an 'invaluable aid to the Federal Government in training men for the Navy. Since its restoration to the Board of Education, it has done a tremendous service. In my approximate twenty-five years of public career, no effort has given me greater pride than the humble part I was permitted to play in the successful endeavor to have this high school located in the center of our great American workshop known as: South Chicago-Calumet . My very best wishes for the continued success of the Chicago Vocational School and my congratulations to those who have so splcndidly performed the successful pioneer service. W. A. ROWAN CITY COUNCIL City of Chicago '-is Regarding Chicago Vocational School, which is one of the best of its kind in the world, I want to say that it has done much for the industry located in Southeast Chicago, in supplying capable, skilled, and well trained technicians. The need of a vocational school in this community has been felt for many years. Employers are happy to hire well qualified help in any line of endeavor, and I, as a representative of the people living in this community, want to convey to you my sincere thanks for the splendid job you are doing. The school reflects the ideals of its community. A school conceived and established to meet needs must enhance the value of the community socially as well as in terms of real and personal property if it be successful. HEROLD C. J' g VH-' l The casual visitor to this edihce is slightly stricken with awe by what the 22 acre tract contains. The Efty-four shops, sixty-four classrooms, eighteen drafting rooms, and six gyms are sufficient for his confusion without mention of the airplane hangar, the auditorium, the natatorium, the lunchroom, and the ample office space. Can you imagine washing 36,553 panes of glass -all in outside windows?
