In an attempt to help the freshman with their scheduling, their classes were blocked by the Office of Records and Registration. In the future, all students classes may be scheduled this way through the use of an Integrated Students Information Center. Student ' s individual course requisites will be fed to a computer and then compared to the school ' s class schedule. The Student Activities Office sponsored an 8-Ball Pool Tournament during the summer term in the K-Building. The Tourna- ment was open to all members of the University Center and was set up on a two out of three elimination plan. The women and men competed seperately in the elimination rounds and then the first place winners vied for the overall championship. The competition was extremely close with Mike Smith coming out the winner. Presi- dent Alexander presented trophies and the winner was also given a free pass to ploy pool for the fall semester. rf - Career day is an important day for all con- cerned with obtaining jobs after gradua- tion. Basically, it is for past graduates and present juniors and seniors. People from the business and educational worlds ore represented. This is the sixth consecutive year that Career Day has been sponsored by the Office of Career Planning. Of the thirty percent of students who use the Of- fice of Career Planning, eighty-five percent of them are placed in jobs. turkey trot I.Q.s.Q. festival judo tournament All the CSU students except track members, are invited to run in the annual Turkey Trot. This is a co-ed intramural sport event which is held on campus. The course, which starts at G building and winds all around cam- pus, features slight obstacles for runners to get through. Enthusiastic participants must run up and down stairs and through buildings before they reach the finish line. The first-place winner is awarded a 20- pound turkey, and smaller prizes ore given to the runners up. The Latin-American Students Association ' s first annual Festival Latino was held in November, 1975, in the University Center. The purpose of the evening ' s presentation was to show the CSU community that Latin students exist on campus. The audience was first treated to the moriochi music of Los Embajadores de Mexico. The moriachis were resplendent in their traditional black outfits trimmed in white. They were follow- ed by other performances which were representative of Mexico after the Spanish conquest. Also included in the program were Aztec dances in honor of the gods of fire, wind, water. As one of the Homecoming activities, the office of Continuing Education and Special Programs presented the First Annual Chicago State University Judo Club Open Invitational Homecoming Tournament. The Tournament was co-sponsored by the Chicago Black Belt Assocciation and sanc- tioned by the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States. It featured sixteen different categories, according to weight, age and rank. Eligibility was limited to Judokas from recognized associations with trophies awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Qft receptions IS gallery opening President Alexander ' s lobby has been a busy area throughout the year. Most of the year its walls and floor space hove been occupied with art exhibits. The art supplied is the work of art majors currently atten- ding C.S.U. These exhibits are a fine oppor- tunity for the university and community to view the work of up and coming artists. Chicago State ' s Art Department is proud to have its new professional Art Gallery. The gallery is located on the second floor of the D Building. The gallery opened with a show from New Guinea and is presently showing the works of Seven Figurative Artists. There ore many more interesting shows yet to be presented. Rhinoceros is only one of the many plays being presented to the C.S.U. community. It is presented by Chicago State ' s Drama Department. The play Rhinoceros was directed by Dr. Dresen. This particular play deals with a man and his struggle to main- tain his identity in an ever changing world. divisional basketball game 7 ■ concerts science fair Friday, February 20th set the stage for a most exciting basketball game here at C.S.U. The end result was Student Affairs smashing Academic Affairs 31 to 20. A 4 yMi C.S.U. has sponsored many concerts this past year, two of which were the Duke Ellington Orechestra on October 8, 1975 and the C.S.U. Jazz Ensemble on January 23, 1976. Mercer Ellington conducted the orchestra on October 8th in a style much like his late father. On January 23rd Bunky Green conducted the jazz ensemble in an excellent concert. Chicago State University was the host of the Regional Science Fair for 1976. The fair included schools located on Chicagos ' south side. It was held in C.S.U. ' s recreation center. The fair consisted of projects such as the growth of cancer cells to theories on ultra-violet rays and plant growth. duke ellington homecoming Lm L SSm ■■ KKKm rmSi S H BBTn i l 1 - H b IbEh | f2 M Wmm i i ■ ■ ' ' flHSfl m 1 1 1 ■ H gov. wolker @ October 8, 1975 saw Mercer Ellington con- duct the Duke Ellington Orechestro in a most captivating performance.
