EMBLEM 1959 The whole of me is an emblem . . . Of memories joyous and sorrowful Of years of preparation; A history in microcosm. I speak of days that are gone For days that are yet to come . . . I speak for a democratic college In democratic America. I speak for you . the 1959 Emblem Roger Carlson and Louise Dumetz Editors-in-Chief r-« - « ' -. v-w ' DEDICA THE JOY WE FEEL AT HAVING ACCOMPLISHED OUR OBJEC- TIVE, HAVING REVIVED THE CTC YEARBOOK WHICH WAS DIS- CONTINUED IN 1958, IS DIMMED BY THE EMPTY FEELING IN OUR HEARTS CAUSED BY THE DEATH OF A STUDENT WHO EPITOMIZED THE IDEAL OF ACTIVE SCHOOL SUPPORT. JULIETTE WAS A TIRE- LESS WORKER FOR CHICAGO TEACHERS COLLEGE, AND WITHOUT HER ENTHUSIASTIC EFFORTS IN STARTING THE REVIVAL, THIS BOOK MIGHT NEVER HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED. GOD KEEP YOU, JULIETTE! WE LOVE YOU AND WE REMEMBER. JULIETTE WINGFIELD TION WILLIAM LESLIE KAISER THE BOOMING, FRIENDLY VOICE OF THE ASSISTANT DEAN IN CHARGE AND BURSAR HAS SOUNDED THE CORRIDORS OF CHICAGO TEACHERS COLLEGE FOR THE PAST TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS. WITH HIS RETIREMENT THE STUDENT BODY LOSES A TRIED AND PROVEN FRIEND. MR. KAISER HAS SHOWN INTEREST AND CONCERN FOR ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS, LARGE AND SMALL, AND WE SHALL REMEMBER HIM WITH AFFECTION. F i«5r JB? members of the class of 1 959 As these lines are being written, the Chicago Teachers College is half way through its ninetieth year as an institution dedicated to the education of teachers for the public schools. Ninety years are not too many fewer than one hundred, and before this year ' s freshmen have taken their master ' s degrees, we shall have a committee working on plans for CTC ' s centennial celebration. A first order of business for this committee will be to secure a promise from the office of the Secretary of state that the 1969 Illinois license plates will be green and white. Nine decades of service in the preparation of teachers. The impact that our school has had on public education is a vast one. And the obligation of our school to keep its standards high is just as vast. It is my profound wish that staff and students, alumni and public will always respect that obli- gation. I believe that the class of 1959 has met high standards. We send you out as teachers with full confidence in your qualifications. You have not only our serene predictions but our very best wishes for complete success. Raymond M. Cook WILLIAM LESLIH KAISHR Assistant Dean in Charge and Bursar JAMES I.
