The Academocrat has gone through varying stages of maturation. simul- taneously with that of the Aeadeiny itself. The prom-ess of its establish- ment as an integral part of school life and activities has been an inter- esting and colorful one. From its embryonic stage and extra-currieular status. it has graclually emerged as an organized. essential element of our program. The desire for journalistic expres- sion in the Chicago Jewish Academy student first made itself felt in 1942. just aftei the school was organized. The Press Club was founded to give fulfillment to this need. and the Academy Beacon was born. Al- though eventually the Press Club was disbanded. the school paper had so endeared itself to the stu- dents that it was not possible ever to discontinue it. In 1944. the re- sponsibility for putting out the paper was assumed by a staff of earnest would-be journalists who worked at this special project during their free periods. The name of the paper was then ehzinged to the Acacia-miat-rat . 'S Sain F?
