Blackout With the treacherous attaclc ol the Japanese upon the United States on December 7th, 1941 our country and all ol its people were plunged into a Figurative blaclfout. There is novv but one thing to worlq lor and that is victory. l.ilce everyone else, the dental student must talce his place in the all-out ellort. Fortunately lor the students at CCDS, Dean l.ogan who was Chief of the Dental Corps in the World War l has been available for counsel and guidance in lacing our problems. Every ellort has been made to l4eep the students in school realizing that they will be of lar greater service to their country as trained dentists than as Selectees. l.ate in February the U. S. Navy lVledical Qllicers came to the school and gave physical examinations to many students who desired appoint- ments to commission Cprovisionall as Ensigns. Under this plan the student is allowed to Finish school belore he is called to active duty. When called, he will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant ,lunior Grade. As yet the Army has not provided a program lor the dental student other than the draft but it is hoped that they soon will adopt a similar plan such as the Navy's. Although our private plans lor the future were blaclcedout in the smoke ol Pearl l-larbor, we were ready and willing to talce our place and do our part to bring a speedy victory to the United States. .Yembr Dance Friday, December Filth, nineteen hundred and forty-onel -lhis date brings to mind pleasant memories. It marked the opening ol the school social calendar. On this evening the seniors sponsored their annual informal dance. As through lile when We page this dentos, and recall the Senior Dance the lollovving memories will come baclc to us. 1942 Smakers With the beginning of a new school year and a new freshman class, fraternities immediately laid shrewd plans for rushing. Basement tallc and social calls all helped to lead up to the freshman fraternity smolcers. The Zips proudly toolc a large group of prospects to the Panther Room of the Sherman l-lotel. The A.Q.'s invited their men to a dinner at the Congress Hotel. Tradition ruled and the Delts once again entertained the fresh- men at l-larryls New Yorlcer where a fine dinner and floor show furnished a splendid evening. Following much plotting and inside talk, pledge day arrived. Cn the 'l7th day of December the fraternity men gathered in their respective rooms and waited nervously for their so called sure men to come. Results of the hectic day proved successful for all of the fraternities involved. 1942 Dance The sophomore class dance was held on Friday evening January 30th, at the Lalce Shore Athletic Club and was acclaimed by all those who attended to be the finest social affair held so far this year. The beautiful ballroom was the scene of the merrymaldng and Pete Coolcfs orchestra furnished the musical background. The committee that worlfed so hard in preparation for the dance must be congratulated upon the splendid job they turned in. Credit goes to Edward Graves, Elbert King, William Friedman, ,lohn Krol, Eymard Doyle and president Edward Shaheen who lent an untiring hand to the committee.
