He was the first dean ot' this institution and held this position until 1920, an uninterrupted service of nearly forty years in this responsible capacity. ln 1886 he performed his lirst opera tion for immediate closure of congenital cleft palate in a young infant, and from that day, his name stands out as the premier operator in this department of surgery throughout the world.
