0l QlfUOI . . . We, the senior class of '44, are leaving Christian High with feel- ings of regret uppermost in our hearts. At Christian we have found everything-fa sound education taught us in the light of Scripture, a moderated social life, a staff dedicated to the cause of Christian education, a school large enough to be cosmopolitan, yet small enough to be friendly. The foundation for a higher standard of life and conduct has been laid for us here. Because of these facts, Christian High, through the influence it has had for four years in our lives, will spread its influence to many points throughout the world. In order to preserve the memories of the past four years, we seniors have written this book which, we trust, will establish an everlasting bond between the Chicago Christian High School and us.

A MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS You of this graduating class are looking upon war's desolation from earth's end to end. You are living in a world where the slaughter of men, the destruction of cities, the desecration of the good and the triumph of evil are commonplace occurrences. You graduate to look upon tyranny invading, prostrating, crushing men and mankind, brutalizing humanity in order to more brutally kill, ravage and destroy. You graduate to look upon millions of maimed, tortured and dead, upon murder and plunder, upon blood- drenched shambles and stenchy battlefields. These are solitary, ioyless daysp terror- saturated, griefefilled nights. There is a challenge to you in all of this. Our hope and prayer is that your generation will effectually bring order and decency out of this chaos. Through the tumult of the present disintegration comes the voice of God calling on His followers to arise in order that His will may be done on earth as it is in Heaven. May you personally accept this challenge and responsibility, for it is especially placed upon such as you who have made God's law the foundation of their life. While the cauldron is boiling as it has never done since history began, we are privileged to participate with you, your parents and friends, in this happy event of graduation. lt has been our unforgettable experience to have been with each other these four years. Here we have learned that the peace of Christ is more than pros- perity and progress, more than triumph in battle. Here we have learned that neither militarism nor diplomacy, nor materialistic planning avails unless the spirit of the Lord prevails. You are young, strong, alert, brimful of life, with radiance flashing in your eyes and on your faces. You are the living embodi- ment of the best American ideals, the living depositories of her endeavors, the still-living monuments to her glory. May all of you wage resolutely this War on the battlefield or the home front for victory and a just peace. May all of you live long to partake of America's greatness and participate in her glorious future. Let us together eagerly look toward the day when men . . shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into prun- inghooksg nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. All .
