DEBATING Debating has again assumed a prominent place among our school activities. Our school has for some years been a member of the Chicagoland Debate League and usually makes a very good showing in competition with these other schools. This year was no exception. Our school came off with flying colors to the tune of six victories and two defeats, for which they were awarded a cup emblematic of second place honors. A major part of the credit for this achievement is to be attributed to Nlr. Yan Yeek, our coach who has transformed a group of inexperienced students into two winning teams. Klr. Yan Beek's paramount objective was to give everyone an opportunity to debate, rather than to win the championship by repeatedly using the same teams. This year's debate question was, g'Resolved: that the United States Adopt the essential features of the British System of radio control and operation. The affirmative consisted of: Harold Dekker, John Cvroenewold, Catherine Huizenga, Lenore Radius, George De Jong, Anton Bolt, and Catherine Mellema. The negative team was ably upheld by Helen Klunder, Angeline Euwema, Conrad Ottenholjf., Harry Ooms, Richard Tiemersma, and Lois Tanis. TYWENTY-NINE

Those league games which they did lose, were lost by close scores. The squad was under the able direction of Coach Thomasma, as were last year's lightweights. Witnesses ofthe games played by the lightweight 'ltivew were often amazed by the smooth-passing of the team. They believed that framework was the secret of the success of all basketeers. CHEER LEADERS .Nlthough no photograph of our vivacious Cheer- leaders is here printed, they are entitled to our heartiest congratulations. The gay triangle com- posed of glean Riddering, Aletha Vanden Bosch, and Ralph Prime, have done more than their share in supporting our teams and spurring them on to victory.
