At sea there are logs to be constant- ly kept up to date-with every course and speed changep navigational bear- ings and ranges to be obtained and plottedg gyrocompasses to be checked for accuracy and the ship's position ascertained and displayed continu- ously on the master chart in the pilot house - ready for the Officer of the Deckkor Captain's glance at any given moment. Each QM must be proficient in ship steeringp ready to man the helm while entering or leaving port, or during at sea evolutions such as underway replenishment.
