The primary mission of the Medical Department in USS CHICAGO is to maintain and protect the health of all Sailors and Marines of the command . This mission his accomplished through several major responsibilities. The Medical Officer and Navy Hospital Corpsmen provide for the sick and injured with careful professional attention and with careconsistent with the highest standards of medical practice. The Medical Departmentconducts inspections incident to the health and safety of shipboard personnel and advises the Command on matters of medical hygiene and sanitation . The planning and conduct of health educational programs is also the responsibility of the Medical Department.
